FWIW, I actually think Manfred knows some of that stuff is absolute trash, and he only says it in weak attempts to placate the more dissatisfied fans, showing that he's trying to do something. I can't find the article now, but maybe ten years ago someone took a bunch of televised games from the 60s (mostly WS games, I'd assume, but those finer details are lost in my memory), and compared them to a bunch of modern games, and about 90% of the increased time was accounted for by the increased time spent in commercial breaks. I just cannot believe MLB doesn't know that, but it's also the one thing they can't really touch without losing oodles and bookoos of bucks off their TV deals with the channels carrying the games. So they make crap up. But it still makes him look like an idiot, and hey, if he wants to look like one I'll oblige him by calling him one.
