I don't view being pedantic as a negative. I am not knowledgeable enough in this area to come close to that characteristic so when others demonstrate these qualities it gives me an opportunity to learn.

Confirmation bias arises because the person interpreting the data has a tendency to emphasize those data points that confirm his or her beliefs.

In looking at your initial statement more carefully, perhaps I was mistaken and confirmation bias might be the right term.
