The good old boy club expands ... Hart made some terrible trades as a GM (the most glaring: Brian Giles for Ricardo Rincon and Travis Hafner for Einar Diaz and Ryan Drese) but is supposedly fairly respected in his current role.

This is the kind of gold old boy network that we should get behind. What GM hasn't made bad trades? Since you're focused on the negative, he made an excellent trade at Braves expense by getting Justice & Grissom for Lofton & Embree.
John Hart, the man that stole A-Rod from us overnight in 2000.
(Of course in hindsight it was probably a great move for us).
If I'm not mistaken, Hart was the architect for several long-term contracts that bought out arbitration years for the Indians. Could just be coincidence.
Refresh my memory on this?
We were the final team that was rumored to be signing A-Rod the year he was a free agent in 2000 (the year Manny signed with Boston, Neagle and Hampton to Colorado). We apparently offered him like 130 million for 7 years or something like that which was unheard of at the time.
Well the old saying was "A-Rod went to sleep a Brave and woke up with a Rangers hat". Boras got Texas to do the 10 year 250 million deal overnight and the rest they say is history.
Except Hart didn't sign Arod. He became the Rangers GM the following year and promptly traded Arod 2 years later.
