Around The Majors 2019

I’d laugh if, somehow after nearly two years of being out of the game, he magically came back and was the O’Day who was with the Orioles. Because if that happened, he’d instantly be the best pitcher in the bullpen. It would make for a hell of a story.

No chance it happens though.

I’m betting it’s absolutely what happens. Life itself is a troll job, and baseball even more so.

The Nationals have agreed to a minor-league deal with left-handed pitcher Sam Freeman, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN. He’ll report to Triple-A Fresno. Though he was a mainstay in Braves bullpens over the last two years, he has only appeared in one big league game in 2019. He could very well get a chance to boost that number with the Washington organization, which has sorely lacked a lefty out-getter this season. In 35 games with the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, he has a 7.01 ERA over 52 2/3 innings.

Bold prediction: O'Day becomes a contributor in the playoffs

Would MLB allow this?

MLB shuts down players from playing in Venezuelan Winter Leagues.

From MLBTR article

Major League Baseball has decided to preclude affiliated players — both major and minor-leaguers — from participating in the Venezuelan Winter League, according to Jared Diamond and Kejal Vyas of the Wall Street Journal. The move was made in an effort to comply with the economic sanctions imposed by the United States earlier this year.

More from the same article

Per the report, the league is engaging with the U.S. government in a bid to understand just what it can and cannot do to comply with the sanctions. Notably, there will be no bar to Venezuelan players who wish to travel back to their home country. But it seems they and others (including, presumably, many players who are not United States citizens) will not be able to participate in game action.

Nats winning again. Up 4-0 early on the Cubs. Anibal Sanchez just had a bunt rbi single with the bases loaded and 2 outs.

Its amazing just how hot the Nationals have been and they still haven't gained hardly any ground on us despite all of our injuries. Now we are starting to get some of our guys back into the offense and we have a super easy schedule coming up. So its likely not going to be getting any easier for them in the future.

Magic number is currently 29 with 33 games left to play for us and 35 left for the Nationals. If they went 23-12 the rest of the way we'd have to go 16-17 for them to win the division. Still not totally comfortable, but we are playing pretty good ball despite our injuries. Hopefully we can take care of business against our non-division opponents remaining and lock up the division sooner rather than later.
