Absolutely by the rules, but it's a rule they never, ever call. I just can't help but think if I'm in blue and decide to start calling a rule that's been ignored for decades (which they probably should), I'm going to start with the guy who hangs out over the plate in body armor daring you to come in and give him a base, not the guy who just got his face broken. Amazing to me that the Nats never even had someone else throwing in the bullpen until the very end there. Incredibly poor job by Martinez - Rodney was obviously shaken up there

Both of our super utility players are now probably out for the season, maybe even the playoffs. Utility players aren’t as important in the postseason, but they are when it comes to pinch hitting and utilizing platoons.
