The Trump Presidency

well...if the Chosen One thinks this is exculpatory, I can't wait to see the inculpatory stuff

looks like Barr might have some 'splaining to do...and Rudy too of course, but Rudy has already shared a lot of information about his role in all this

"I wouldn't say it's reciprocal necessarily because things are happening that are not good but the U.S. has been very very good to Ukraine"

well these are just notes (what are called readouts) taken by someone who was listening in...it is not an official transcript taken by someone trained to get everything down precisely

And the staff is down to the C team by now.

Trump must have been in a panic to release that. For about the gazillionth time, what a colossal idiot.

From the information released yesterday by both intelligence committees and by the whistleblower's lawyers it seems clear that the details of the complaint will be made available to the committees one way or another. Also the resolution passed by the Senate yesterday and Pelosi's statement probably made the people around the Chosen One realize that stonewalling is not really a viable strategy at this point.

Plus there was a hint in Maguire's statement last night that he might have threatened to resign. Releasing the transcript might be the least bad strategy for the Chosen One. The hope might be that Republicans in Congress say well yeah it's bad but not worthy of impeachment. Something like that. I think Rubio rehearsed that line of reasoning yesterday.

I love the way T made sure to include the Attorney General, whose job description now seems to include strong-arming countries for dirt on the President's enemies. With Michael Cohen in prison, somebody had to step up.

interesting tidbit from the NY Times:

After a whistle-blower raised concerns about Mr. Trump’s dealings with Ukraine, the director of national intelligence and the inspector general for the intelligence community each referred the complaint for a possible criminal investigation into the president’s actions, according to a Justice Department official.

wonder where that investigation stands

"I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it."

President Donald Trump was incredulous Tuesday as he sat in Trump Tower and watched House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announce she was launching a formal impeachment inquiry against him, sources familiar with the moment say. Sitting in the same building where he launched his long shot presidential campaign four years ago, Trump said he couldn't believe it, he later told people.

He had felt confident after phoning Pelosi earlier that morning. The drive for impeachment in her caucus had ramped up amid reports he pushed the Ukrainian President to investigate Joe Biden, and Trump was hoping to head off a clash. He figured he could de-escalate tensions by speaking with her directly.

It was after that call that Trump made the decision to release an "unredacted" version of the transcript of his July call -- against the advice of aides such as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who warned him it would set a risky precedent. Trump wanted to undercut the argument from Democrats that he acted inappropriately, he said, and felt he had nothing to hide.

After Pelosi's historic announcement, Trump immediately began lashing out, accusing Democrats of distracting from his successes at the United Nations General Assembly and arguing it was just "more breaking news Witch Hunt garbage."

But people close to him said he is not welcoming this impeachment fight. The President who keeps a careful watch on his approval numbers was unhappy.

A source close to the White House who routinely speaks with Trump confirmed he does not want to be impeached. Despite the argument that it could help him politically, Trump, according to the source, has worried about the possibility of being impeached for nearly a year, dating back to the weeks that followed the November 2018 midterms when Democrats won the House.

Wow! The White House and Trump actually think this is better than releasing the whistleblower report?! That whistleblower doc must be massive!

I presume that when Barr carried out the instructions to call the president of Ukraine he had some awareness of the background for this call. I don't think he is long for office.

Wow - You guys think this is a big deal and is going to move voters?

Its amazing how motivated you are to remove Trump from office.

This is even less than the Russia nonsense.

We'll see. You could be right that the voters will be unmoved by this. But it is not a subtle or complicated matter. People will grasp what happened. The question is whether they will view it as a serious abuse of office.

Also - Does this set a precedent? Can we now ask for all discussions between a president and a foreign leader based on an anonymous second hand knowledge complaint?

I'd love to know what Reagen spoke about with the Russians.

Clinton to the Chinese

Obama to Iran

Trump to Russia

lets see it all.

At least he wasn't a Democrat doing an admirable job, that's the worst.
