Official Offseason Thread

For as good as the team was, there's still some very notable flaws that would have gotten exposed sooner or later.

Somehow need this, in 5 months.

An everyday C/3B
One outfielder, and hope Pache is the goods when he comes up
One SP, some BP arms

Seems like alot, not sure how possible with the Braves not having a ton of cash to use.

The platoon has been ok the last few years, but yeah, an everyday guy is needed. Not many of them, Grandal is probably the only one whose gonna hit FA. Dont know who could be traded for.
 
Grandal has shown he’ll take a high AAV for the short term so I’d take advantage of it and offer 2/40 and JD 3/70.

Could we even afford both, would probably have to keep Nick for another year....
 
Thinking we will decline the option on Julion and make a run at both Donaldson and Grandal.

Yep. I think Wright, Anderson, Wilson will be given the same opportunities to be a 5th starter next year. And that like this year we're gonna rely on offense to win most of our games until one of those 3 settles in as a starter. Maybe we pick up a starter off the market.

The question is whether the 4th AND 5th starters are newbies or do we try to find another Anibal Sanchez. Or maybe give Newk one more shot at starting.
 
So what do we have coming off the books?

Donaldson - $23M (4.9fWar)
Kuechel - $13M (0.8)
Teheren - $11M (1.6)
O'Day - $9m (0)
Markakis - $2M (0.4)
Mac - $2M (1.1)
Duvall - $3M (0.7)
Hamilton - $1M (0)
Random relievers - $3M (0.5)


That's about $67M coming off the books. $10M of that is gonna go to Melancon. So that is $57M.

Not sure how much are going into raises and arb... but probably close to $20M?

That leaves $37M... and AA probably wants to hold $5-$10M for mid-season... so let's say $30M

If no payroll increase... we have $30M to replace 10 fWAR.

Julio's had a hell of a run but given all the holes the team has, that 12 mil is needed elsewhere. Not sure how realistic Grandal/JD is, but if thats pretty much our entire offseason, couldnt complain.

I think at this point we need to relay on our internals to to be that 5th starter and use our $ elsewhere.

Soroka, Folty, Fried, Newcomb?, Wilson?, Touki?,Wright?, Anderson?

you hope at least one of those turns the corners and the rest are typical 5th starters

Duvall isnt a FA, and who knows where payroll will be, but yeah, he has alot of players to replace and we're not a top 2-3 payroll club.
 
Marte for LF, has 2 years of control remaining at for 24 mil total. That would move Acuna to RF which is his natural OF position. Ender in CF

Try to pry Grandal to Atl and loose McCann and Flowers, keep Cervelli to spell Grandal.

Re-sign Donaldson if he'll accept a 2 year deal for in the neighborhood of 50mil. If not, Moose will be available. Camargo could get another shot as a 3rd option.

Let Keuchel walk as well as Teheran. Soroka, Folty, Fried to build rotation around.

Markakis for 6mil(- 2 mil buy out) might still be in play for Braves as a bench guy. I wouldn't want him as an every day OFer. The question is, would Snits, IF HE"S STILL WITH TEAM, sit Markakis in faivor of Ender. He'd move Marte to CF in order to play Markakis.over Ender.

Questions remain about Charlie, Camargo, Joyce, Duvall, Ortega, and Hamilton. Riley, Pache, and others fall into the questionable category.
