Official Offseason Thread

I’d really give Hamels a hard look. He’s the kind that could do wonders for Fried. Like Cheff, Grandal would be my top priority and I’d go 3 years with no option but I’m guessing that JD will be the top priority with AA. I’m hoping they push the payroll more to the 135 mark and they can squeeze both in. But if they could do Grandal, Moose, and Hamels if they don’t resign JD then that would have to be the route taken.

Just putting that out there. Our boy Kurt Suzuki

How long before he's forced to apologize?

#Braves are bringing back Markakis with intention of him platooning in left field, and they discussed that with him before re-signing him, Anthopoulos said. AA mentioned Duvall as platoon option in left with him.

I think the Braves believe that Pache and/or Waters could be ready mid season and that’s why they probably won’t invest in anything longer than a 1 year type of player (Markakis).

Figuring $20M for Grandal, $10M for Mous, and...what...$10M-$15M for a single season of Hamels? That puts the payroll right at $130M.

Seems like a very viable strategy if Grandal can be had on a short contract.

The issue is when some team offers Grandal 4 years and AA won't go there. Then he checks down to Avila or Castro, and doesn't really have obvious options to upgrade the offense anywhere else. I have no idea where he goes from there...probably the trade market.

Projecting Grandal at 4/70 throws a real wrench into the whole "Grandal is top priority" idea. The only chance he becomes a Brave is if he prefers a 2/40 deal over something like 4/70 because he values the high AAV he thinks elite catchers deserve.

Checking down to Castro at 2/12 seems to be a much more realistic play. His LHH bat and plus framing would pair well with Flowers.

He definitely has the tools to make the team a lot stronger than last year. I love JD, but fixin to turn 34, age is gonna start creeping up quick on his range at 3b. As much as I’d love to resign him we can’t handcuff ourselves for 3 years and 22-25 million a season. I’d have to let him walk and take the pick. Grandal and Moose make us better from last year and help to lengthen the lineup. Hamels I’m not sure on his value. Would he take 1 year and 12 million? I think if AA has the chance to add the right pieces I think they’ll stretch the payroll to make it happen, especially being we are in our contention window now.

If we go basically all defense at C then the platoon idea in LF makes less sense at that point. If we do resign JD and go with Castro then he has to upgrade LF with a real option imo.

Passan said he thinks Rendon's gonna sign a 5 year/200 mil deal with the Dodgers.

If this happened, would yall take on Justin Turner, has 1 year at 20 mil left, LA would have eat some of his contract, at least half.

So if JD would have signed an extension in August would we still forfeit a draft pick???

But seriously. I think the chances of signing JD to a two year deal with a third year option are pretty good. I just don’t think his market is that strong.

A Duvall/Neck platoon will be ok the first third of the season until Pache’s bat is ready. I’m looking forward to an Acuna, Pache and healthy Ender outfield. The defense will be insane. Of course Waters might sneak ahead of Pache.

I expect AA to go cheap at catcher.

I just don’t want AA to wait around on JD and let others slip by. I’d offer JD the most I could and be comfortable and then the most I could to Grandal and whichever agrees first then pull the other offer.

If we're not gonna spend on a high level SP, or bullpen, gotta spend on the offense somewhere. After Grandal, there isnt much at C, after Moose, JD, there isnt much at 3B. I dont know if we sign an outfielder for multi years with Pache/Waters in the wings.

AA will have some money to use, but i think years is gonna be his sticking point.

The Dodgers wouldn’t have to eat a penny to move Turner unless they wanted better prospects in return.

If he becomes available he is the exact type of low risk impact bat with minimal surplus value AA would likely be all over. He would replace JD almost exactly in the lineup.

If this is true Turner becomes my #1 choice for 3b. Offering him a QO after the 2020 season is even more gravy.

With AA’s relationship with LA I’d think he’d be all over it.

MLBTR predicted the Braves to sign Hamels at 2/30 and Moose at 2/20.

MLBTR has the Braves signing Hamels for 2/30 and Mous for 2/20.

I have a hard time seeing AA give an aging non-impact pitcher 2 years, and expect him to get the best SP he can on a 1 year deal.

Mous is 100% expected barring a trade for someone like Turner.

They have Castro going to LAA for 2/10, and I have a hard time believing AA won’t match or beat that if he can’t get Grandal on a 2 year deal.
