I’d do those deals all day. That’d leave us enough to get Grandal

Agreed. I just doubt AA gives an old SP line Hamels 2 years. I think he gets the best non-QO SP he can that’s willing to sign for 1 year...or trades for this year’s Paxton.

Yeah i see a 1 year deal for a SP, dont see AA giving 2 years to Hamels.

A lot of teams are starting to go the value route and hopefully that continues bc Hamels on a 1 year deal is a no brainer. AA has a lot options and he’s shown no signs of being reckless after his time in LA so I fully trust him to not handicap us.

I would have preferred Joyce to Markakis as the left side of an OF platoon. Or really in any situation. Maybe having Ender and Acuna for CF will still allow them to keep Joyce as a 5th OF.

Avisail Garcia makes some sense as a cheap young cOF that sits in the space between everyday option and bench player. I like him as the RHH OFer if AA decides to get one.

FG put out their top 50 FAs:

Projecting Grandal at 4/70 throws a real wrench into the whole "Grandal is top priority" idea. The only chance he becomes a Brave is if he prefers a 2/40 deal over something like 4/70 because he values the high AAV he thinks elite catchers deserve.

Checking down to Castro at 2/12 seems to be a much more realistic play. His LHH bat and plus framing would pair well with Flowers.

It just seems unlikely to me that Grandal will get that offer when he only got 4/60 last year. Being another year older also.

I pretty much agree, and MLBTR tends to skew high with their estimates.

The idea that Grandal being a year removed from his catching yips in the playoffs and not having a QO attached will add some value, but being a year older subtracts value as you mentioned.

I think Grandal will have 3-4 year offers, and the hope is that AA can get him for 2 years at a higher AAV.

Yeah I dont see him getting more than a couple of years. He's 31 in a few days, and nobody is going to want to be paying a premium for a 35 year old C in a few years

Michael Pineda is my dark horse. Before his suspension he really had some fantastic peripherals and great results. He will be looking for a cheap one or two year prove it deal.

I think AA will look to trade for an established starting pitcher, along the lines of Lance Lynne, Mike Minor and Matt Boyd.

Don't forget that the Rangers are opening a new stadium this year. Might force them to try and field a competitive team and not trade their best pieces

I cant think of anyone we might trade for Minor even if Texas was inclined to move him. Boyd we have had interest in last July and 2018 IIRC. Seems to me Dayton Moore hesitates to trade with Atlanta. Rockies are desperate to trim money. Jon Gray? Braves have very little to trade from the ML roster. Is there a chance they evaluate Waters and Pache and decide to trade one for major return? Who might have interest in Inciarte? If Donaldson goes elsewhere what do Braves do about 4-7 lineup?

With his connection to the Dodgers, I wonder if AA would try to pick up Rich Hill via free agency....at 40 years old coming off injury, he won't cost much in dollars and will only be a 1 year deal....still has good strike out stuff, doesn't block any of the young guys, and may help Fried/Newk

So 2/40 with a 3rd year option for like 18 million ?

I think Tampa is going to be selling a pitcher. Between Snell, Morton, and Glasnow, they will have a lot of their 2020 payroll tied up in pitching. And they are pretty deep in pitching as is, so it seems logical that they'll use that depth to upgrade a potential playoff team. Morton seems like the obvious sell high candidate but they'll get better value trading Snell since he's cost controlled for 4 years.

Snell is one of the only pitchers I'd be willing to give up Pache for. Would they do a deal centered around Anderson and Pache and some other prospect outside the top 10?

For Morton, it's tough to gauge. They will likely want immediate impact players, but being that he's 35, it's hard to imagine justify giving up a ton of value for him, even if he has been a top 10 pitcher over the last 2 years. Hopefully, they overvalue Riley and we can grab Morton for a package centered around Riley and Wilson.

#Braves are bringing back Markakis with intention of him platooning in left field, and they discussed that with him before re-signing him, Anthopoulos said. AA mentioned Duvall as platoon option in left with him.

Now we just have to make Snit actually do this.

I think the Braves believe that Pache and/or Waters could be ready mid season and that’s why they probably won’t invest in anything longer than a 1 year type of player (Markakis).

Yep. This is exactly why. Last year it made sense to make a 2-3 year commitment to an OF if we could get one, this year not so much.

Another big gamble - and as mentioned earlier MLBTR tends to skew a bit high with their predictions - but I could get on board if we landed both Hamels and Moose at the numbers they have if AA was able to also get Grandal, possibly even at the crazy 4 years they project for him. If you're not going to extend Freeman, Langeliers and Contreras should be ready by 2022 and you could shift Grandal to 1B.

Not pointing fingers or accusing but I wonder if AA, having been with LA and aware of Grandals character flaws and PED suspension is wary of Grandal especially with our VERY YOUNG Latino players and his possible influence?
