Official Offseason Thread

Going to repeat myself: 2020 MadBum will allow 40 homers and will be an average #5 starter. I don't give a **** how much veteran presents he has.

What’s a veteran present? I want one!

But I agree. There’s nothing special about MadBum, but someone will drastically overpay and then be stuck with the horrible results. I just hope it’s not us.

Beat me to it. I was just about to post this. Also, do you have to be active/former military to qualify for one of these presents?

Well technically Folty didn’t give up 10 runs either. But stick to the facts.

Yeah, but he got the ball rolling. Not sure how one comment turned into a “thing”....but please don’t defend Folty. He is one of the most talented pitchers in baseball, but he can never be trusted to be more than a back of the lineup pitcher because he’s such a head case.

I don’t want Madbum for that kind of money for the same reason I don’t want Donaldson if it means a four year albatross for an aging player.

....in saying that...acting like Madbum is not going to be at least a serviceable pitcher with moments of dominant pitching is laughable. He’ll be about like DK was for us this year. DK helped us a lot. Do I want four years of DK at 20 mil...no. Was he a valuable presence...yes.

I am probably one of the few that think Madbum will be pretty good the next three or so years. But I also think you need to rewatch that Folty start. The defense didn’t help him at all and Mccann was god awful behind the plate. Folty is a pretty good pitcher who is far better than a number five.

Please god no, fire that tape into the sun.

FWIW I also blame the defense and Fried was worse than Folty.

I'm not saying I disagreed, but add Wheeler to a rotation with Nola and you've got a great 1-2 punch. If one more guy figures it out, they're looking good.

Maybe. But they have about 47 million under luxury tax this year. It would be hard to get wheeler and JD and stay under and still have enough to fill in other gaps. They are starting to hit that slippery slope of big contracts. They are winning enough to not get great picks and their system is a bit barren. They will probably decline Jakes options next year but then that leaves them with just another pitching hole and no one to fill it. I hope they do sign wheeler to some 5 year 125 million deal.

Yeah. No one should ever watch that inning again. But even Fried was not helped by McCann. A lot of folks just don’t get how good Flowers is. Him not starting some is the second biggest reason we lost behind only FF trying to play hurt.

I think Flowers is a pretty good player. His yips last year were brutal to watch, but other than that I'm happy he's back.

Also, to be honest, I wasn't focused on the game really once things started to death spiral. What did McCann do so poorly back there?

He just doesn’t frame well. I think the 2-2 on flower was close and flowers might have gotten the call. He stabs at the balls way too much. McCann that is. The bases loaded walk was also really close.

Frankly , Wheeler is gonna get over paid for what he is based on what he could be.

Wheeler signing in Philly doesn’t scare me a bit.
