Official Offseason Thread

Dont see the need for another SP, yes, you could use a veteran but gotta upgrade the offense in some way. Need 2 bats, but i think we only add 1.

Pretty sure it would cost one of our big 3 (Anderson, Pache, Waters), and then some. Given he's gonna get north of 300+ mil and no way we do that, thats a hard, hard, hard pass for me.

I can't really think of a reason for Boston to trade him because no one is giving that up for his last year of arbitration.

I’m not sure why folks expect more pitching help with a rotation of Soroka, Fried, Folty, Hamels, and several young options for the 5th spot already on board.

"Want" and "expect" are two different things. I don't expect upgrades to the rotation or the OF, but I want them.

Most i'd offer for Betts is like Riley, Wright, and Muller/filler. Yes i know that wouldnt get it done but not giving up one of our top 3 for him.

It simply contradicts AA’s Braves track record to give JD anything longer than a 3 year commitment; even 3 yrs 75 million seems like too high of risk concentrated into one player.

Will be interesting to see if the Braves approach to replacing JD’s value is to spread the equivalent money across multiple positions in terms of accumulating quality depth. I could see a few more 1-2 year signings in the 5-10m AAV range to fill out the rest of the roster.

Bowman wrote that Kris Bryant would cost Folty, Anderson, plus one of Waters or Pache. Not sure if that’s based on what he’s hearing or what he actually believes though.

I’m sure the Cubs would want that but it wouldn’t happen

I love Bryant but no thanks. Just resign JD.

Agreed. If we’re going to be hurting in 2-3 years, I’d rather be hurting through an albatross contract vs a prospect or two that pans out for someone else. At least the downside of the contract will expire after 3-4 years vs watching a top prospect playing well for someone else for a decade. Go sign Donaldson and hope he plays well for 3 of the 4 years.

Rays and Pads close to a trade, sending Pham to SD and Renfroe/Xavier Edwards (Padres 5th best prospect on Pipeline) to the Rays, per Rosenthal.

Its based on the fact that Bowman had an appetite for paint chips as a child.

Jesus that is a good trade for the Rays. The Padres basically bought less than 1.5 WAR per year at the expense of two extra years of control (from Renfroe over Pham) and a 50 FV middle infield prospect. They continue to masterfully maneuver their meager payroll, turning into a consistently competitive team.

They also shed about 5 million in salary, which they'll no doubt use to find some diamond in the rough, turn him into a competent MLB starter, and pawn him off on some other team for 1.10 to every dollar he's worth.

Rays vs SD in a trade isn’t a fair fight.
