Official Offseason Thread

Shocking that the usual suspects crowed about how nuts I was for floating that idea but have changed their tunes of late.
What in the world are you talking about? Everyone here has basically expected this as a likely outcome.

Did the faulty web code introduces phantom antagonists on this board as well?

If Riley is dealt or flops 3 base could be an issue for a long time. Is there any good FA coming around that the Braves could realistically afford.

JD getting 4 years wouldnt be surprising, just wouldnt want AA to be giving that out.

Ideally the Cubs have devolved to the point they would take Riley plus an arm for Bryant.

Riley, Wright, and 40/45 FV arm would actually be a pretty decent haul for Bryant, though I suspect they may get a better offer somewhere else.

Travis Shaw is playing the market as well. Can Story play 3d? Can Swanson play 3d? Does Boston want to trim payroll enough to trade Boegaerts? Lots of possibilities, lots of time left.

#Nationals making progress on Strasburg, sources tell The Athletic. Team remains confident deal will get done.

He is also interesting. The issue I see with him is the fact part of his value is tied up in being able to play CF, and that’s not where the Braves should be spending resources. Sort of like why Pillar isn’t as clean a fit as some other OF options.

Unless the Braves sell low on Ender.

Pollock can hit well enough and has enough power to pass as a cOF. If healthy Pollack should easily be a 2 WAR outfielder which would be an improvement over what Neck has been.

That “ 1 average year and 1 terrible year” contract is what keeps mid market teams from making necessary upgrades, forces them to trade great players in later stages of arbitration, and compels managers to play a player way past their expiration date in hopes of rebounding their value. It’s basically a death sentence for a team like the Braves, especially when they project to have a weaker farm system at that point due to the international penalties.

There’s also a real possibility with JD that he has leg problems early on in this contract and he basically sinks your Acuna/Albies/Freeman window of contention singlehanded.

The Braves need to be willing to take on a degree of this risk if they want to be elite which is why nearly everyone supports the notion of the 3 year deal.

It’s partially dependent on Donaldson wanting to return to Cobb County slightly more than anywhere else, all other elements being close to equal, but I wonder if Anthopoulos could get “creative” and offer a 3/$81m contract that breaks down as such: $25m AAV over three years, fourth-year option at $25m, $6m buyout on fourth year. That’d amount to either a four-year deal or a $27m AAV deal, either of which seems near the top of Donaldson’s market.
