Pollock can hit well enough and has enough power to pass as a cOF. If healthy Pollack should easily be a 2 WAR outfielder which would be an improvement over what Neck has been.

Right, but another team needing a CF may value him more highly than the Braves who don’t need a CF. He’s still an interesting option, just not as clean a fit as someone like Hernandez or Souza.

I dont think he'll sign a deferred deal.

That’s just a joke related to how much deferred money they owe Scherzer and Corbin. Zombie Expos will have a pricey pitching-staff even when those latter two are no longer pitching for them.

Stras was money in the playoffs but that was his first or second year with 200+ IP, he was obviously untouchable in the playoffs. But you dont pay off a small sample size. That said, the Nats basically had no choice given there was no internal replacement for him.

Just saw there is deferrals lol, doesnt say how much.

My proposal is roughly 50-60 million in surplus value. Bryant's value is roughly the same. But yes, as I said, they could likely get a better offer.

Any trade for a player like Bryant almost requires the other team to overvalue a player like Riley. It doesn’t make sense for the Braves otherwise.

Is stras really worth 35 million. He was great last year but that is some coin for a pitcher who could belly flop at any moment.

Probably not. He has had health issues and 7 year deals for pitchers over 30 rarely work out well. But he has been a 5+ WAR guy 2 of the last 3 years. He's really good.

Folks were wondering if Cole would break Price’s total contract record and/or Greinke’s AAV record. Stras has broken both, but will only hold the record for a short time.

Nats should be set up well for a title defense for the next two seasons.

It will be interesting how quickly they decide to rebuild. It’s a healthy combination of short term win now players like Max, Corbin and Scherzer, and young elite talent like Soto, Robles and Keiboom. If they manage it right they may be able to bridge contention windows well if they are willing to trade these starting pitchers.

but i had a GUARANTEE that Cole wouldn't break $25M on average and that the Braves NEED to sign him.

Source: Gerrit Cole is increasingly likely to sign during this week’s winter meetings. His market is developing quickly, the source said, with the Strasburg signing giving further clarity. @MLBNetwork @MLB

Their ownership said as much. I expect them to zero in on Donaldson now and they have cash to burn to make it happen.

If they don't have money for Rendon then they probably don't have money for Donaldson. Donaldson and Rendon will probably get close to the same money per year. The only difference will be 3 or 4 years versus 7 or 8 years.
