Official Offseason Thread

Not to mention that most of it doesn’t make sense. Like now his complete ignorance that the Gleybar/Chapman trade is nothing like a potential trade for Bryant. Trying to argue that because Torres and Wright had the same prospect # rating it somehow makes the trades similar. And then his worry that if we trade away a prospect and they pan out that it would turn the Braves into a laughingstock. Prospects have to get traded in order to bring in talent. We can’t hold onto every single prospect we have and hope to acquire someone like Bryant with only MLB pieces.

Torres was also super young. If Wright pans out, so be it, at some point AA is gonna have to cash in some of these prospects for a proven player.

The Hamels and Smith deals are looking that much better. Crazy money being spent this offseason and it can’t help but trickle down.

I’d say we have next to no shot at JD now and for that money...I’m ok with it.

We know the "big bat" has to be at 3B or cOF, but the idea of adding a defensive backup 3B after cutting Culberson to save less than $2M is a bit odd. Does that mean Camargo is potentially out as well?

Corrected that to be a "defensive backup SS" about 30 mins ago.

DOB Twitter

Gonna start this Tweet again, sans typos:

Anthopoulos said #Braves still looking to add a big bat -- ideally at third base, but that it could also come in the form of an outfielder.

Also reiterated they want to add a defensive-minded backup shortstop.

Edit--- Does that mean Hech might be back in play???

Please again, I ask for help. Can someone show me how to imbed a tweet?

From DOB.

Alex Anthopoulos provided clarity on the #Braves' 3B situation: : “I’ll say same thing, we are exploring options at third base. And that’s a quote for you guys. Meat on the bone.”

Ok, I didn't say how much clarity.

That makes much more sense, and Hech seems very likely.

I think Kris Bryant s who they are after. They know the bidding for JD is gonna be out of our comfort level as far as years go. The grievance is the main hurdle. He checks every box for us.

Take the numbers from the end of the tweet and add to the inside of the following. It will look like this:

You will have to remove the space inside the last bracket. I had to put it in there so the whole thing would show in the post.

Agreed. I bet they get Bryant for MLB ready pitching and possibly Riley.

I saw where one of the Cubs beat writers said he thinks Bryant gets traded to us and mentioned Max Fried. I see no way they trade Fried at all. The Cubs could be interested in Newcomb and that could be why AA has been saying he’ll be starting to raise his value.

Thanks! I’ll give it a try when I have a tweet to post.

Newk yes, Fried no way. It makes little sense for the Braves to fill one hole by creating another.

Touki is also a possibility. Wilson too. Wright as much as I’m a homer for him. Even Anderson if he’s most of the package. All arms not named Soroka or Fried are probably in play for Bryant. I doubt they’d want Folty, but maybe.

If the Cubs want cheap MLB ready pitching, the Braves are the place to shop.

The question is "Exactly how 'in' is AA?"

I'm famous as being one of the most famous posters here when it comes to pushing chips in, but if you give up Ender, one of the young arms, and Riley and that arm turns out to be what some folks project him to be and Riley makes adjustments like he has his entire professional career, don't you turn into the guy that keeps Theo from being remembered as "the guy who traded Gleyber Torres for a couple months of Aroldis Chapman"?

Would you really want to be that guy on this message board??? It would haunt you for the rest of your life when His Highness tears into you a year from now.

I'm gonna write a death metal album using your posts as lyrics.

What does everyone think the ruling will be regarding Kris Bryant and his service time? I just had to look it up, so for those of you that don’t know, this is from an ESPN article. I’d like to believe his grievance will be denied as it would open up Pandora’s box regarding all other rookies, but you never know. It’s a ****ty way for a team to manipulate a players salary, but how can you dispute it when a team is fully within its rights to say they want to start a player in the minors?

“Bryant contends he should have started the 2015 season with the big league club, allowing him to become a free agent after the 2020 season. Instead, the team sent him to the minors out of spring training, then brought him up 10 days later due to an injury, allowing them to keep him an extra year and making him a free agent after the 2021 season. The union filed a grievance on Bryant's behalf with the sides finally presenting their case this offseason.”

At the time of the trade, Torres was the #26 prospect in baseball. #26 in 2018 was Kyle Wright according to your precious Fangraphs. #26 in 2019 was Vidal Brujan.

Unbelievable (not really) how quickly you run from your incorrect predictions and how hindsight isn't part of your vocabulary - Torres was #26 at the time of the trade.

Lol. So, since a pitcher was ranked the same as Gleybar Torres, that means that the trades would be the same. Let's ignore the fact that one was for 2 months of a relief pitcher and the other would be 2 years of a 5 win 3rd baseman.

However i agree with Scheff on clv, dude writes ****ing 5 page responses when a simple one sentence could do. Like anyone is reading all that **** he types.

Wait, you don't? Dude.... I highly recommend it. Like, I'm more enthusiastic about recommending reading his posts than I am when I'm recommending for a friend to start watching The Wire.
