How do the Nats match up better than us for Bryant? They couldn’t offer anything like we could.

I don't think there's a doubt we match up as well, if not even better, but we aren't trading Fried or any of our young guns like that. The Nats know they're in win-now mode with a shortened window, they're more likely to do it.

Even if the salaries were the same, I would rather have Newcomb or Wright in the rotation next year than Bumgarner. It surprises me that anyone can look at his performance outside of the most pitcher friendly park last year and still be optimistic about his performance for next year.

I think it's weird you'd rather have Newcomb or Wright if Bumgarner made the same money as them.

They'll want someone like Fried. The Braves value guys like Fried too much. Maybe they'll take Newk, but he's way more of a rotation question.

Padres willing to throw in a prospect to unload Will Myers

Would be interesting to see just how far they could be pushed. That same blurb mentioned the fact that they were rumored to be willing to eat half his money to move him a little while back. If Preller is as desperate to move him as it sounds, maybe you tell him you'll take Myers off his hands if he eats $16 million ($5 million per plus the buyout) and includes one of Ryan Weathers or Michael Baez. Cut Duvall loose (or trade him for a bag of balls) to save a little money.

Add Weathers or Baez to the Riley/Wilson package for Bryant.

Including inciarte in a trade:

Replacing him is a much smaller hole to address than not having a cleanup hitter.

In fact, you have an adequate defensive CF option in house and one in the minors projected to be ready by 2021.

The Nats don’t have the young pitching or the talent close to the majors that the Cubs will be looking for. Keiboom and what else? They don’t match up with the Cubs well at all imo.

If they'd value Folty it would be worth exploring.

Trading Folty is interesting if another veteran pitcher is acquired. Hope teams more heavily weight how he finished last year.

That could get a significant return.

i'd look into Pillar immediately if Ender is dealt.
could easily hold the spot until Pache is ready (which i happen to think will be this season).

That makes much more sense, and Hech seems very likely.

After I saw the "defensive-centric back-up SS" mentioned, I did a quick search of all the big league SSs and it appears that all the "glove-first" guys are starters, so I was wondering about what options would be available. Hechavarria seems to be someone who comes closest to the definition. Not to go nostalgic, but in the days of ten-man pitching staffs, it seemed like every team had a "glove-first" infielder who couldn't hit his way out of a wet paper bag on the roster. It was almost a cottage industry.

If you had to have a CF sure.

But: Corey Dickerson in a corner. Puig. Brett Gardiner if yankees can't finalize it.

Trade for Marte/Merrifield/Haniger if you are really pushing in chips. Or Peralta.

When you consider an aging below average hitter whose value is all tied up in defense this is much much easier thing to deal with than not having a credible offense.

The only way I see AA in on MadBum would be if he is planning to trade from his pitching depth to replace Donaldson. That could be Newcomb, Fried, Folty, Anderson, Wright, Wilson, etc.

I just don't think it is likely.
