Castellanos was projected for 4/60. That seems about right since he has no draft pick attached and he's the younger player.

The projections for players so far this offseason have been pretty close on a bunch of players.

MLB.com proposed 3 deals for Arenado, one from the Braves was Waters/Anderson/Ender/Cruz. That's way too much even without the opt out.

We better go sign Ozuna or Puig or make a trade for an OFer if we go that route. But doubtful we trade for Arenado, much less give up that package.
 
Yeah Arenado is a long shot at best bc of the money and prospects both. Bryant is doable and so is Marte. It’ll be interesting to see which way AA goes. NC won’t cost a pick and is the younger of the bunch.

Bryant or Marte will cost more than Arenado to trade for. Unless the Rockies pick up a big chunk of his salary.

If they also pick up 40-50 million on the back end, that wouldn't be terrible

If Arenado waived the opt out then the Bowman package isn't that damaging in the long term. Money shouldn't be that big of an obstacle. I do think all thing considered it would make resigning Freddie questionable but not impossible. One more point, Melancon could be traded despite what everyone thinks about his no trade clause. In normal contract law, once waived, that article disappears. Seems a bit redundant to have he and Smith to fill basically the same role considering money.
Now, I still think the odds of and Arenado deal at maybe 25% at best. Not impossible but unlikely.

Seriously? You can pretty easily make the argument that that wouldn't be asking for any more than the most popular rumored haul from the Cards. Given how much trouble they have trying to get pitching, you can probably make an argument that what they'd be getting from St. Louis would be better - Martinez, Hudson, and Liberatore would all likely be in their rotation on Opening Day 2022 while the only "guarantee" to take a rotation spot by then from us would be Anderson

Waters and Ender would make up 2/3 of their OF where O'Neill would leave them without a CF, but does anyone really think it's going to be hard for them to get a free-agent CF to sign with them when he gets to hit in that park? Springer, JBJ, and Michael Taylor are all free-agents next winter, and if they pulled the trigger on an Arenado deal they could pretty easily follow it up by getting JBJ from Boston for a song now.

They'd be taking some money back from both teams - Ender ($24.75 million if they don't buy him out) and Martinez ($23.5 million if they choose to exercise his buyout following 2021).

Why do I keep reading about Nolan waiving how opt out. Can anyone explain why he would ever do that. The next person who says that should be shot in the sun.
 
If I was AA I would either sign Brock Holt or trade for Joey Wendle. I would start the season with platoons at third and left. I would keep enough powder dry to make a move for a big bat mid-season.

Mitch Haniger is someone I would keep an eye on. By June we will know whether he is back to the 2018 version of Haniger. We could also make a move for his teammate at third. Plus other teams will fall out of contention. We will have more choices then than we do now. I'll mention Joey Gallo as an example of a player not available now who might be available at the deadline.

I would not go 4 years on either Ozuna or Castellanos. I'd rather pay a contender's premium at the trade deadline for someone with less risk attached to in the form of a long-term market deal.
