Braves sign OF Marcell Ozuna to 1 yr, 18 Million.

With the SP in pretty good shape, the bullpen looking nasty, and the bench strengthened to look pretty good, I’d say we are one more piece from being a legit WS threat. As we set we are already top 2 in the NL, if we did somehow trade for Bryant then I’d put us over the Dodgers.

So the Braves now have their 1st round pick (25th overall), their Comp B round pick for losing JD (right now 73rd overall), and then begin picking again in the 4th round (roughly pick 127 overall). So a pretty bleak draft coming up for us, especially if we want anyone over slot since we’re losing quite a bit of slot money forfeiting those picks. We also lost $1M in international signing money, but this is the season coming up that we already lost 50% of our bonus pool money from the Coppy penalties. So weak draft and weak international pool approaching.

But overall I’m pleased with the signing. Fills the void in the lineup for sure.

Pretty awesome deal. Much like JD a year ago, Ozuna has a lot of motivation to have a big year and cash in next off-season. Guessing we're going with Camargo/Riley at 3b. I'd like us to sign Holt thoughl.

We didnt lose our 2nd.

Hard not to, i mean. 1 year deal, keeps Pache/Waters down pretty much all year. Doesnt add long-term financial strain in the coming years.

Thing is, Braves have a TRUCKLOAD of money off the books next year. Hamels, MM, Ozuna, Greene, Nick, Flowers. Ender is a possible trade candidate too. O'Day is likely to have his option declined. Folty could get non-tendered.

Not a whole lot in free agency to spend on next season.

Pretty sure it was our 3rd.

"As a revenue-sharing recipient, the Braves will only have to give their third-highest pick in the 2020 draft as compensation for signing Smith. This is currently Atlanta’s third-round selection, though it could end up being the team’s own compensatory pick (between Comp Balance Round B and the third round) if the qualifying offer-declining Josh Donaldson signs with a team besides Atlanta."

i do think there was some uncertainty here

That deal is pretty much a no brainer. He fit out need better than any other option. Glad AA could get it done.

I'd go for Bryant once his arb case is settled, pending what it would cost.

Acuna
Ozzie
FF
Bryant
Ozuna
Swanson
TDA/Flo
Ender

Why on earth would you even answer the phone if you're AA and Chicago or Colorado calls at this point???

You've "solved Freddie's protection" without blocking Pache or Waters or giving up a single arm, and there's absolutely no reason you can't leave Riley in Gwinnett for the entire season now.

If he answers the phone before the deadline at this point, he's nuts.

If AA can get Bryant or Arenado without any of Pache/Anderson/Waters, tell me why not?

AA might just be ok at this GM thing.

I’m ok with missing the opportunity to pay JD 90 million in order to pay Ozuna 18 million.

Ozuna will be played in 2020 for a big contract. I expect a big year from him.
