Hopefully, it's just a case of "let the old veteran stay home awhile and do things his own way" and he'll not really be set back.

Hamels threw 141 2/3 innings last year, 190 2/3 in 2018 and 148 in 2017, so AA and company probably weren't counting on a full season from a 36-year-old Cole Hamels. Whether or not a setback this early indicates there'll be even worse problems moving forward, I don't know.

Alex says Hamels will not be able to start the season in the rotation due to the lost time. Doesn't sound like they think it is season threatening or anything.

There’s a cutoff for these things.
Roger Clemens spent a few years being in the BSOML every June or July after having been retired for 7-8 months each time.
If all goes well he'll still be able to have a start or two at the end of ST and begin the season with us.
Yes but he also had his wife injecting PEDs in his buttocks.
Keuchel took 8 months off and was decent without roiding lol.
No one had to change the testing rules to stop Keuchel from avoiding piss tests, though.
