We still have 6 years of control at this time. He'd have to sit out the majority of this year to still have 6 years of control in 2021.
 
I’m not sure comargo mentally is set up to be a part time player. I don’t think Newcombe has the mental ability to be a starter.

It might not be a coincidence comargo came in ready to go as a starter and fat with jd signed.

Riley could hit 12 hr and I’d still want him to prove it in aaa.

Its still way too early to infer much of anything, but I think its encouraging that Riley only has 2 K's through 16 plate appearances. That's one major concern with him so if he can make it through the spring while making consistent contact, I think that bodes well for his playing time regardless of what his raw results look like.

True. TBH I’m just dying to see who plays 3B. I’m really hoping it’s Camargo though. The whole no precedent for a player with Riley’s swing profile having a good career is highly concerning.
 
Best case for the Braves is for Riley to win this battle and allow Camargo to be the first guy off the bench. Riley's ceiling is much higher than Camargo's as his power will play at 3b even if he never develops a high OBP. Camargo on the other hand, needs to have a high OBP top justify his stick being an everyday 3b, but as a supersub his stick is fine. If Camargo is our starting 3b two months into this season, the Braves have a hole at 3b without an internal option. If Riley is the starting 3b two months into the season, there is a chance there is not a hole at 3b.

I know Acuna will get straight (K'd in 8 out of 19ABs), but Drew Waters has significant development left to do as he has K'd in 11 of 16 ABs. He is 3 for 5 when he actually puts it in play.

I tend to agree that Riley becoming a viable thing would be the best thing for this team, as it would allow Camargo to develop as a super-utility option. I'm not in love with Camargo as a starter, but I think he has a chance to develop into one of the best bench bats in the league.
 
Camargo's ST is just as good if not better than Riley's so far but they are still hyping Riley.

It's small sample sizes, comparing numbers would be silly. If Riley is identifying sliders better and hitting the mistakes and not chasing the bad ones, I can see how that's more impressive than Camargo. There isn't really much Camargo can prove at this point. We know he hits lefties, and not righties. His upside is limited. Him getting 4 hits in 6 ABs versus righties hypothetically isn't a sign he can start hitting righties. For Riley, even in a small sample size, not looking terrible versus sliders and getting blown away by fastballs can be encouraging even in a smaller sample size because that was a specific part of his offseason training, so a carry over is room for optimism.

Wendell Rijo was taken by the Braves in the minor league portion of the Rule V draft this past Winter. Was in the Yankees system and is listed as 5'11" second baseman out of the Dominican (highly touted 16 year old, signing for a $625,000 international bonus), originally singed by the Red Sox in 2012, traded to the Brewers in 2016 and over to the Yankees in 2018.

Career slash line of .240/.319/.362 in 7 minor league seasons so not much to get excited about except for maybe one defensive play.

Although he did fair much better in 2019 than in the rest of this career posting a 106 wRC+ in 51 AA games and a 105 wRC+ in 43 AAA games. Power surge in AAA (ISO .226) likely due to juiced ball.
