The Coronavirus, not the beer

We are officially in full panic mode and I think that may be a good thing. Strong social separation is taking place before this thing gets way out of control. Based on what I've read the biggest key is to have enough hospital care for those who need it. Hopefully by panicking now that will slow the spread enough to not have issues here.

I find it hilarious. Trump has no one to blame but himself and I wish him nothing but the worst. I want him to die in prison, not from this virus. That is too good of fate for him.

It’s not surprising that a country that treats health care as a commodity to be mined for profit is woefully inadequate at responding to a crisis that demands a robust and organized public health response.

Seems like a perfect storm for a Medicare 4 All candidate. If only we had one of those.

Nothing says "Its time to panic" like the WH coronavirus meetings being classified. I cant fathom a good reason for this. I read the NSC ordered this but I have my doubts about that.

Possibility of Trump suspending the election ?

Not that far fetched- Rudy tried to capitalize on 9/11 to get a free term as NYC Mayor

Would explain a lot of things.

I thought about this but the election is in November. If this is still going on in November we are in some deep ****. My guess is he will try and say its not fair to him because he couldnt campaign. I think his chances at re-election are nosediving. Which both makes me happy and angry. Last thing I want is 8 years of Creepy Joe followed by 4-8 years of a Republican.

White House says Trump and Pence dont need testing. I wont be surprised if Trump gets it, its very noticeable, and he just outright denies it and refuses testing. What I am surprised by is the Secret Service hasnt taken charge here. I would think they would have him sequestered in the bunker doing everything via video chat. My guess is he isnt well liked by them.

Though Creepy, he would be far saner picking Supreme Court Justice and judges throughout the system.
The country stands a better chance of having some sort of national health program and I trust our immigration policies won't be quite as draconian

I would bet the farm we would negotiate back into Paris Climate Accords

This is far better than what Trump or Pence would do. Crazy as it sounds, I trust Pence less than Trump
……………..

We agree on our choice to get the nomination and win the general. But, there has been a bump in the road and like my mother used to say, " a half a loaf is better than none"
" cutting off your nose to spite your face"

If it is the case I will support Joe Biden as I did HRC over Trump. Enthusiastically
None of this hold my nose ****. To my mind there is a very clear choice

Cancel the election?

We're getting a test of that move in Georgia.

"Republican Gov. Brian Kemp, already an enemy of voting rights groups nationwide,

has canceled an election and says he'll fill a seat on the Georgia Supreme Court all by himself."

From a surgeon in Dallas.

But all the doctors keep telling Trump that they are surprised by how much he knows about the Coronavirus....... I also shoot fireworks from my ass.

Local person here went to work to tell them he tested positive for Coronavirus. If I had an employee do that I would tell them the next time they walk through that door they are leaving with bullet holes whether they have it or not. I cant understand the incompetence of some people.

Better to teach him how to use a phone.

Some large American cities are considering an Italian style lockdown.

I think you either go drastic like that and take the economic hit.

Or you accept that a large part of the population will get infected and avoid taking the economic hit. This seems to be what the Germans are doing. I personally would go with the latter. Just use common sense in avoiding large groups of people. Offer elderly relatives and friends to do their grocery shopping for them. And let the chips fall where they will.

Either way you test aggressively to monitor the situation on the ground.

Absolutely the latter. We don’t know what unintended consequences exist from a public health perspective with the former (I.e., a nurse has to stay home to watch her three kids because school is cancelled).

We need to at some level accept that a lot of people will die, and that disease is a tragic, but natural part of existence. If we approach the situation with that mentality combined with empathy, we will be able to make the best possible decision and cope with the outcome.

there is a lot to be said on behalf of stoicism

and on behalf of fatalism under certain circumstances

it doesn't mean you give up or don't adopt reasonable common sense measures
