Important caveat to note.
I don’t think it’s possible to know if we are ahead or behind Italy in terms of cases. That curve of confirmed test cases is probably more of a reflection of our testing capability and infrastructure ramping up just as much as it’s a growth in cases. Especially since we are flat out denying testing to patients with mild symptoms.
The only numbers that really matter right now are the number of IC and death cases, IMO. At least until we get to the point where we can test at scale.

Since they are a bit ahead, Italy bears close watching to get an idea of when this thing starts flattening out. Cases and fatalities are still doubling every 3-4 days in Italy.

One of the most noble things I can remember are the senior citizens that went in for the Fukushima cleanup because they said they were already old and lived life and didn't want the younger generations to have to die early.

noble and also efficient from a cost-benefit perspective...it sounds cold but we need to look at costs and benefits when assessing how to respond to this crisis

You're talking about "death panels". When there aren't enough beds or respirators to go around, decisions will have to be made.

A real bad storm's about to hit. A moment in time that will remain in our memories so long as we have the ability to remember. I know we've had our arguments and disagreements on this board, but I hope everyone on here and their loved ones make it through this without too much pain whether it be financially, emotionally or physically.

As a country overall, I don't think we'll get there. I think the impact will mostly be felt in large cities where people live on top of each other. I hope that there's enough urban sprawl in most other cities to help alleviate hospital overload.

Where I live in Japan people are mostly going about their lives in a normal way. The schools are closed but this is spring holiday time anyway. I was surprised to see so many folks at the driving range on Saturday and at the golf course yesterday. The Japanese could be said to practice social distancing in normal times, those crowded subway trains in Tokyo notwithstanding. But so far, no cluster outbreaks that I'm aware of.

I saw Tylenol on that list as well. Maybe the idea is to let the fever do its work. Very important to point out though that this is just a hypothesis and needs more testing.
