The Coronavirus, not the beer

This is probably 100 meters from me.

Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Including Crypt, Will Become a Hospital

The vast interior of the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in Manhattan stood empty on Monday, the thousands of chairs that normally sit beneath its soaring ceiling and stained-glass windows removed to make room for a more grim sight: a coronavirus field hospital.

The cathedral, which describes itself as the largest Gothic cathedral in the world, said on Monday that its 600-foot-long nave and equally large subterranean crypt would be turned into an emergency hospital as part of the fight against the pandemic.

Nine climate-controlled medical tents capable of holding a total of at least 200 patients will be erected inside the cathedral by the end of the week, said the Rt. Rev. Clifton Daniel III, the dean of the cathedral.

The crypt, which is primarily accessible via a series of winding staircases, will be used as “a staging area” for medical personnel, he said. It is the first time the cathedral, which is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, will have been used for such a task, he said.

“The last thing like this was the flu pandemic in 1918, but the world was different then and I don’t think they used the cathedral in this way,” Dean Daniel said in an interview inside the empty church. “But traditionally, in earlier centuries, cathedrals were always used this way, like during the plague. So this is not outside the experience of being a cathedral, it is just new to us.”

Maybe some state or country could volunteer to be the "do nothing" guinea pig so we can see how that works out.

Alabama? What you waiting for?

Can we hold as many maga rallies as possible in that area while doing so?

Wouldn't the "do nothing" state be the safest place for a rally. I thought goldfly was providing sound advice.

But you see.
Goldfly thinks the virus is deadly and highly contagious. So his wish for people who vote differently than him to die is sad, but not surprising

well i will let him speak for himself...i thought we was thinking of the health and safety of the people attending the MAGA rallies

Oh no, freedom boy is upset

I’m looking out for who are worried about tyranny and thinking it’s a hoax etc

Let them have their rallies back

What’s the worst that could happen?

You are going against what doctors are seeing globally.

Just stop it.

The left and media want people to die to hurt trump. It's very obvious.

There is no down side to taking the drugs.

You''re a moron.

https://www.drugs.com/hydroxychloroquine.html

"To make sure this medicine is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:

a history of vision changes or damage to your retina caused by an anti-malaria medication;

heart disease, heart rhythm disorder (such as long QT syndrome);

diabetes;"

The same people who're at risk of death are at risk with this drug.

Don't be a ****ing moron.

It's also no coincidence that a major manufacturer of said drug paid to have access to Trump's former personal lawyer. But I mean there's nothing to see here.

Every doctor friend I have talked to

Said yeah, there might could be something to help some people I. Some of those drugs

But it could really make some sick or die in others

Much less it’s reckless and irresponsible to start talking specific drugs before testing

Oh, makes total sense now why he is always talking and pushing this

Shockingly

It’s about making money for himself and not about helping people

proper trials take time...so I'm fine with "trying ****" in a pandemic...i will note that 98% of people recover and are fine...so a doctor who administered a placebo might be impressed by the results

Though it would be nice to get some perspective on how far we've come in such a short time. From 3/14, date of the first reported NY death:

In 3 weeks we'll be where Italy is right now

That day's Italy deaths:

175 one-day tally
1,441 total

New York deaths, 3 weeks later (4/4):

630 one-day tally
3,565 total

United States deaths, 3 weeks later (4/4):

1,352 one-day tally
8,259 total

Things have been much worse than expected, seems like.

yeah, but I was thinking more in terms of per capita...so things not too different when you account for our population being more than 5 times Italy's

Per capita doesn't look so hot on the NY comparison though (Edit: actually, not as bad as I thought; edit2: no wait, it is pretty bad).

Though on the national level it does answer thethe's repeated requests for "how many weeeeeeeks"

I'm hoping NY peaked. But if you look at Italy, they had 793 deaths on March 21, then 651 and 601 the next two days. It turned out that this was a false signal. I think a more reliable signal is to look for multiple days where there is a decline from 7 days ago. A form of moving average that filters out some of the noise. By that criterion, we are not at the peak, either in NY or nationally. The same criterion indicates Italy is past the peak for deaths. Spain too.

I'm sure his promotion of hydroxychloroquine has zero to do with personal financial interests.

Has he ever spoken this word? I would love to hear that.
