And Harbaugh or Payton would make me forget Saban very quickly. Both of who I think would be a better fit than Saban. But don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have Saban.

Be careful what you wish for. I think you need to look at schools like Michigan, Tennessee, Washington, etc and to see just how risky it can be to fire a high profile, long tenured coach. If you don't make the right hire it can set your team back even farther than what it is now.

They might hire someone just that bad. It's nice to hear they are looking at NFL coaches. Wish Tennessee had hired Lovie Smith when he was interested the first time.

Is there a good history of former nfl coaches going down to the college level and succeeding?

If it came done to college coaches I would go after urban Meyer.

Jim Mora Jr is doing a decent job. But in general the coaches who come from the NFL to dominate in college are failed NFL coaches who were great in college. See saban, Spurrier, Lou holtz, etc.
