the broad answer is externalities...everytime I fart everyone suffers...so if i can be induced to make a small change in my diet it will result in a socially optimal result
What we have done is the furthest thing from a small change.

With a pandemic the question becomes how well people internalize the risks they are exposing others to by say sitting down for a meal at a restaurant
The answer generally is not very well...it is a form of market failure
The point about externalities is risk taking that is not internalized. It is the difference between risking say skin cancer which is not contagious and a contagious disease.Anyone that is outside is accepting the risks of the virus.
To me its just that easy.
I don't want to criticize everyone for being an alarmist. Everyone has their own reasons. But don't push your alarmism on me where it impacts my everyday life and destroys the economy.

Higher ed is a scam.
There is a reason why the left refuses to squarely blame the virus on China.
Wonder what it feels like for these people to sell the nation out to communists.
#1 Trump isn't going to use any research so may as well sell it to the highest bidder. Isn't that the American way?
#2 China needs U.S. research?
#3 Research is secret?
1 - The true patriots would not sell to communists. Intellectuals have always hated America for what is stands for because of their superiority complexes (Meta).
2 - The US has the brighest minds in the world. Everyone needs our research but China just needs a foothold to wash their money through our system.
3 - No, but like everything the US does it best.
Meta is traitor?
Makes me want to flay him.No - Just hates Murica.
Makes me want to flay him.
Yikes - Went from 0 to a billion real fast.
Spain looks to have the lowest rate in the table Ginn referenced. I'm not really sure the data mean much. Practices regarding testing children probably varied widely by country and drove the data.
The data suggest they are not superspreaders. It could be their immune systems keep the viral load low even when they are infected. This is the info we don't have.
But common sense tells you children literally are super spreaders for virus/diseases. They don't wash their hands, they eat/drink after each other, they touch EVERYTHING including each other, and they are frequently putting their hands in their mouths, noses, eyes, and ears. For children not be some super spreader for COVID, it would literally go against everything we know about virus's and diseases in general.
People are so ****ing stupid

Exactly - All studies done show the exact opposite. Thats why Europe has opened schools in most regions.
