People wear masks, not out of fear, but out of compassion for the herd.

Numerous real studies done which show effectiveness. In addition, the countries which adopted the wide scale use have much lower deaths per 100.

I'd ask to see if you understood why the VA and Lancet study are useless but I'm guessing you either don't care or don't understand.

Why would I want to live in a state who so carelessly abused authority?

Japanese culture is vastly different than ours. Japanese routinely wear masks during flu seasons, so while it may not have been a "requirement" the vast majority of Japanese have been using masks even before the virus took hold. Recent surveys show nearly 80 percent of Japanese have been wearing masks during this outbreak. Also, in Japanese culture people don't typically shake hands or wear shoes in the house. Basically, their entire culture is geared in way that makes them less likely to contract the virus than an American would.
