Let's assume there will be < 60 game regular season

Players have voted AGAINST the owners proposal for a 60 game schedule. From here Manfred is expected to either implement his own schedule or cancel the season.

I guess we’ll get a 50-60 game season, but is Manfred only allowed to set the number of games? So no expanded playoffs or universal DH?

So this opens the door for MLBPA to grieve as soon as Manfred announces a season. That’ll hold things up even longer.

“Today, the Major League Baseball Players Association informed us that they have rejected the agreement framework developed by Commissioner Manfred and Tony Clark. Needless to say, we are disappointed by this development.

“The framework provided an opportunity for MLB and its players to work together to confront the difficulties and challenges presented by the pandemic. It gave our fans the chance to see an exciting new Postseason format. And, it offered players significant benefits including:

1) The universal DH for two years
2) A guaranteed $25 million in playoff pools in 2020
3) $33 million in forgiven salary advances that would increase the take home pay of 61% of Major League players
4) Overall earnings for players of 104 percent of prorated salary
5) Over the last two days, MLB agreed to remove expanded Postseason in 2021 in order to address player concerns

“In view of this rejection, the MLB Clubs have unanimously voted to proceed with the 2020 season under the terms of the March 26th Agreement. The provisions listed above will not be operative.

“In order to produce a schedule with a specific number of games, we are asking that the Players Association provide to us by 5:00 p.m. (ET) tomorrow with two pieces of information. The first is whether players will be able to report to camp within seven days (by July 1st). The second is whether the Players Association will agree on the Operating Manual which contains the health and safety protocols necessary to give us the best opportunity to conduct and complete our regular season and Postseason.”

I hope so!! I liked what Trevor Bauer tweeted. Something along the lines that this isn’t the time for the players to fight to the death, that comes after the 2021 season. That’s the fight that really matters. If they hold this up and don’t play, it won’t even matter what happens after 2021 because they’ll lose too many fans.

So this opens the door for MLBPA to grieve as soon as Manfred announces a season. That’ll hold things up even longer.

It won't hold anything up. The grievance will be determined by an arbitrator (or in the courts). This is liable to take years and will happen behind the scenes.

Everyone lost on this. There was so much to be gained from a deal on all sides, owners, players, and fans. The fact that the owners and players couldn't agree is absurd.

Yep, they will file a grievance and then play (edit: at least those interested in playing will). Then we'll find out the grievance outcome much later.

With the rona exploding in the south do we really expect the season to be played?

Not meant as political, but with our current lack of leadership and the decisions being currently made, I expect we will see a situation where athletics is the last thing on folks' minds and nobody will care or should they. I don't expect athletics to return until sometime in 2021. It most likely gets so bad that the country should close again. Sadly there are too many people that believe conspiracy rather than have good sense. But it will give the leader a chance to stay in office because he will use it to cancel the election to prevent a loss

I think the Owners screwed this up initially, but it’s sorta ridiculous the players didn’t jump at this 60 game offer immediately.

Looks like they’re going to get sixty games at pro rata without any of the extra concessions, so not sure how ridiculous it is, ultimately.
