The Coronavirus, not the beer

It seems to me that the data you are using might include probable deaths for NY, but not probable deaths for other states. Which might be why some people mistakenly make the claim that deaths in NY have continued to be higher when in fact they have been significantly lower than in Arizona, Florida and Texas in the past week.

Could be. Maybe those states are reporting them like the cdc advised already though.

Thread on Sweden

[Tw]1277632503533015041[/tw]

there is something curious about this graph...it looks at week 40 to week 21...the last 13 weeks of the prior year and first 21 weeks of the current year (roughly October to May). Why would someone look at October to May, when there were no coronavirus deaths prior to March. Why not look at just March to May? I have a theory as to the answer. I see a lot of graphs like this. Comparing Sweden and its neighbors, but including months going back to October. It seems to me the relevant time period is March to May.

unimpressed is my one-word take

see my post above for an explanation why

The assumption no coronavirus deaths took place prior to March has been thoroughly debunked. Not sure why you continue to push the anti science narrative.

I would be interested if the gentleman whose tweet is being shared produced a graph for March to May. I'm sure he has the data. I won't speculate as to why he chose not to share those results.

Because its a subset of the covid 19 impact. Its pretty obvious. People were dying from this undetected since late 19. Not sure whats difficult to grasp about that.

Therr was even an article recently that showed evidence of covid19 in sewage water as early as March 19. Ill need to see more than to believe it was circulating early 19 but the idea this is a first quarter 20 origination is just flat out wrong.

If you are going to use this in regards to the lockdown, and whether or not it was the best approach, then only the stats from that point forth are relevant.

I disagree because the start of the lockdown was already when the virus ravaged uninterupted at full expoential growth.

Its not a useful comparative for a huge portion of the population that lived in areas at a different stage in the growth cycle.

‘Exhausted’ by customers’ rage over wearing masks, California taco chain shuts down

Diners at two Los Angeles taco stands have screamed, cursed and thrown drinks on employees trying to enforce a “no mask, no service” policy, the Los Angeles Times reports.

It’s become so exhausting that Hugo’s Tacos has closed down both shops to give workers a break, owners wrote in a post on Twitter.

“All because of a simple question: Can we ask you to put on a mask? Can we offer you a mask?” said part-owner Bill Kohne, according to the Los Angeles Times. The company has been serving tacos for 15 years, owners wrote in the Twitter post.

Incidents, often captured on video, of people refusing to wear masks or trying to force their way into businesses without masks have been reported in recent weeks across the United States.

California is one of several states that have implemented mandatory mask orders in public to try to contain a resurgence in coronavirus cases. But some people argue that mask orders are an infringement on their freedoms.

Nabor Prado says Hugo’s Tacos employees have been on the front lines of the face mask controversy, KNBC reported. One man became so enraged he attacked workers.

“He got a cup of water and (threw) the water at my employee, which is unsafe and rude,” Prado said, according to the station. “It’s really sad to see grown up people doing childish things like that.”

Workers, who are mostly Latino, also have been called racial epithets by customers who have demanded refunds and thrown drinks through drive-up windows, the Los Angeles Times says.

“It’s just gotten more difficult to open every day in an environment where you’re treated with hostility and venom,” Kohne said, KTTV reported.

The company hopes to reopen soon when it feels it’s safe to do so, the notice posted to Twitter says.

“This isn’t about some tribal choice that you’re being asked to make,” Kohne said, according to the Lost Angeles Times. “You’re just being asked to care for the people around you.”

It is more useful than using the data they are using to talk about lockdowns. Both are flawed.

But the narrative of the Nordic nation comparative was in dire need of some additional nuance and this was a great start. If true, and I assume additional people will latch on to either validate or disprove, could go a long way to informing rhe world what the best approach truly is.
