Around the League 2020 Edition

didn't know where to post this so figured i'd get this started, but crazy:

https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-54-prospects-new-york-yankees/

i only went down to #20, but 18 of the Yankees top 20 prospects are international signees. they've crushed it in the international market. going to help keep them very good for a looong time.

FG seems to have gotten pretty liberal lately with their ranking systems. Yankees with 39 prospects with at least a 40 FV rating? Likewise, the Pads last year had like 40+ players with at least a 40 FV. That seems.... unlikely.

Comparatively, the top ranked from teams 3-4 years ago to as far back as about 2014 have had no more than about 30 total 40 fv players.

it seems they have. their most recent top 100 speaks to this as well.

i think the Nationals could really struggle to consistently put up runs this year. i know the top 3 of their staff is excellent, but man, that offense...

Yeah they have a lot of options, but not necessarily good options. Really surprised they weren't more active in FA given their WS win.

i don’t think Kieboom is a lock to step in and kill it. Howie Kendrick will man 1B again and they lost an MVP candidate.

Mookie and LAD closing in on a 10 year 350+ million dollar deal. Whew boy thats a lot of cash right now.

Watched a little bit of former Braves' prospect Ryan Weber who is now with the Red Sox on a replay of yesterday's Sox game with the Blue Jays. Red Sox announcers were really talking him up and admiring his pitching acumen, but right after the praise, he tosses up an 86 mph fastball that Rowdy Tellez launches 400+ to dead center for a 2-run dinger. He's in the mix for the Red Sox rotation, but the guy has no margin for error. That said, he might be a good piggy-back guy who can serve as a change-of-pace to a hard thrower.

He's slated to be their no 3 starter i believe.

Only fitting. I remember the conflagration in here a couple of years back when a contributor at Fangraphs had Weber listed as one of the Braves' top prospects. Echoes from the ensuing howls still reverberate in the digital sphere. Seriously, I hope Weber does well. He's stuck around and he's a classic "knows how to pitch" guy.

Younger version of Tomlin.

Mookie and Dodgers close to agreeing on 13 year, $380M deal.

Doesn't this just about guarantee that he will be traded in a few years with the Dodgers eating a huge (yuge) portion of that contract?

Seems like that is how these signing often end up.

Mookie should be fine for most of that deal. Probably 8-9 good years, and 3-4 declining years. Dodgers win a title or two during that time, it's well worth it.

Contract is now official. 12 years/365 million, added on with the 1 year/27 mil, its 13 years/392 million. Lot of cheddar.

Yeah. I am not really talking about whether he will be valuable for the length of the contract. Just whether he will stay with the Dodgers for the duration. Things change. The balance of power changes. I know the Dodgers are a high payroll team, but will the time come when what they can get for him is more valuable to them than he is... even with having to eat some of the contract.

Stroman has a torn calf muscle, per twitter. DeGrom/Matz/Porcello this weekend.
