Around the League 2020 Edition

Speaking of former braves pitchers, did anyone else catch Gausman pitching yesterday?
Dude was hitting 99 with his fastball and looks To have added a few mph to all of his stuff.
Looked pretty dominant.

Always liked him.

Stroman really played the LONG con with the Mutts.

both he and thethe are LONG islanders

i used to think it was named long island because the people who lived there longed to be somewhere else...now my understanding is starting to change

Houston Astros hitting coach Alex Cintron has been suspended 20 games for instigating the brawl with the A's the other day. Longest ever suspension for a coach.

What to do with the Cardinals? Discussion please. Could we try and keep our opinions about corona virus out of it?
Is there a certain number of games they should have to play in order to qualify for the playoffs? Simply can’t use winning percentage if they have played a significantly lower number of games.

I doubt Manfred has a plan at this point. He’s probably hoping they get in as close to 60 games as they can and, because it’s the Cardinals, they’ll sneak into the playoffs (and eliminate us) with less games played. But in reality, I can’t see them playing even 40 games at this point. There’s going to come a point where they’re just going to have to be eliminated from contention due to their outbreak.
It really shows why this season shouldn’t have counted from the outset. They should have set it up as an exhibition season. Allow as many players that wanted to opt out, opt out. Still put a product on the field each night. Allow some weird rule changes. Don’t start the clock for any call ups, etc.

Yeah I tend to agree they are not going to play enough games to fairly be considered for postseason play. We have played 4X as many games as them. There isn’t enough days remaining for them to get in a “full” season I don’t think. I heard one idea floated around and I actually think it makes sense. For the Cardinals to be eligible they must need to have more wins than the final playoff team and they can only get in via wild card. So if the Reds for instance finish the season at 32-28. The Cardinals must win 33 games, regardless of how many they play.

Id allow it.

They probably should be forced into playing with the rest of their roster not showing symptoms. Either that or burn their facilities to the ground. I’d be fine with either

I like that plan. It would be fair in this silly season. Cards fans won’t like it, but they’ve had enough breaks in the past decade, they can enjoy getting ****ed over for once.

I thought they should have forced teams with outbreaks to use their alternate site team while the main team was in quarantine. Make it to where prospects wouldn't accrue service time in this scenario.

Probably not. They generally aren't there to promote what's best for the game.

correct, they're generally there to promote what's best for the players.
i'm not sure how it's fair that a minor leaguer is asked to play, but doesn't accrue service time. that definitely helps the teams, tho.

It's a situation where those prospects wouldn't normally be playing? And they really haven't cared about minor leaguers before. And I don't see how it helps the team as they would be forced to be playing with a bunch of sub par players.

with pitchers and pitching coaches a lot seems to ride on chemistry or whatever you want to call those intangibles

Never understood what happened with Gaus in Atlanta. Despite fools claiming MadBum was better and should be signed for 5 years, Gaus always seemed to be posting peripherals that were way better than the overall results.

Now he is back to his normal self with another team, and the Braves are using Ynoa to open games. Too bad really.

He's signed on a 1 year 9 million dollar contract this year. Not sure the Braves could have afforded that. Easy to see now in hindsight with injuries he was needed
