The Coronavirus, not the beer

I say hello back.

What did they do?

They didnt urge uprisings to liberate certain states or provinces.

They took things seriously and didnt engage in wishful thinking about the virus going away like a miracle.

They didnt peddle dubious treatments.

They didnt push for reopenings in places where the data showed infections to be widespread.

OK. Thats a lot of what they didn't do.

1. Uprising don't spread the virus as the experts and government officials said all that is needed is masks and a protest to stop it

2.not engaging in wishful thinking doesn't actively make the virus slow

3. Not peddling HCQ didn't make the virus slow

4. Not pushing reopening is to imply that you support indefinite lockouts

South Korea is obviously doing one of the best containment jobs in the world, but they're leaking a little more... they've reported 103, 166, and 279 today. This is hardly bad, but for them, it's high; the last time they had 100+ in 3 straight days is March 7-9

Had healthier populations less susceptible to death.

yeah right

Deaths reported in the past week

France 82
Italy 189
Germany 35
Spain 105
Canada 47
United States 7,279

must be all those fat unhealthy Americans

Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas all seeing cases going down. Georgia is the only southern state not going down.

There is something going on that reminds me of these models you have in biology, where the population of prey and predator move in a cycle. Prey population goes up. Predator population goes up. Prey population collapses. Predator population collapses. Prey population recovers. And so on.

The counterpart looks like this. People let down their guard. Virus spreads. People become scared and cautious. Cases go down. People relax and let down their guard. And so on.

The key to breaking the cycle is not to let your guard down when cases drop. Good luck to all my friends in the south!

I mean gyms were shut down and restaurants did take out. They damn sure didn’t get healthier. The quarantine 15 is a thing.

I mean you are aware some people may not have been exposed the first go round?

Or maybe back off the protests.

First hand though, I haven’t seen anything but increased precautions. I dont think people are “letting their guard down”

There are a yuge number of people who have not been exposed. My point is a couple months ago deaths per week was less than what they are now. Surely a sudden increase in obesity is not a serious explanation for why the number of deaths being reported is now twice as high as it was back in june.

I think the letting down of the guard was back in May. People have learned the hard way not to do that. So hopefully, this time there is no resurgence. School reopenings are the fly in the ointment. That's the one big risk for a resurgence that could coincide with the flu season.

I have a HS age son. I think it is extremely important to get the kids back to school. I wish we had made better use of time. We should have been making strenuous efforts to make sure school reopenings could take place in relatively safe conditions (low infection rates).
