The Republican Party has won the popular vote in a U.S. presidential election just once in the past 32 years.

That stat should tell you everything you need to know about the current GOP voter suppression efforts.

Here's map of US by county that voted for trump (red) and Hillary (blue)...

I dont think its elitism to treat Trump for what he is. I understand his appeal, I was vaguely for him at one point although I didnt vote for him. He was a joke. Now he is a real threat to this country. You may think this is exaggeration but this **** with Trump isnt over yet. I would say if it ends without catasrophe you can tell me I was wrong but we are closing in on 200k deaths from a virus he tried to pretend wasnt a big deal.

That makes one of you.

From the size of his dick comment in the debates, he was a gigantic eye roll. Our other option was Hillary.

Wait, why are almost all the border counties to Mexico voting for Democrats? Arent they the people most affected by all these rapist and murders illegally coming from Mexico? If the border patrol heavily leans Republucan well I doubt they are driving through multiple counties to get to work. That's a natural advantage for Republicans but they almost universally were not wanted by voters on the border.

I didn't say elitism in regards to Trump, I said calling his supporters "ignorant uninformed blue collar white people" was elitist. It's that kind of attitude that drives these people toward Trump.

I think Trump would have won that Demographic by a wide margin regardless of what Obama did. If Obama saying that stuff caused as much as a shift as you think Trump should lose by a landslide. He has done nothing but insult any and everyone that doesnt kiss his ass.

I think Obama was right for the most part and that group sticking with Trump no matter what he does proves that.

First, that demographic wouldn't normally have gone to Trump in the primary. Someone else would have won without a population ready for a demagogue.

Second, don't underestimate the importance of turnout. These people were angry. Angry people are much more likely to go vote than content people.

I think the biggest thing not reflected in the polls right now is the anger on the left in regards to Trump. You have people who aren't qualifying as likely voters but who are motivated to vote for Trump. I don't think it's as big as Trump because you don't have the feeling of being left behind by the economic recovery. That was a big factor working for Trump. But I do think Dems will have less turnout problems this year.

I could agree about the primaries but I think it was years and years of political propaganda that set that demographic up to be angry. The political pendulum usually swings the other way after a 2 term President because people naturally start to blame whoever is in power problems whether it was their fault or not. That a historically bad candidate like Hillary only lost the electoral college by 50k votes over 3 states and won the popular vote by 2 points should be seen as a credit to Obama's legacy. Hillary got 2 million more votes than any Republican has ever got in an election. I just dont see that as an indictment of Obama. He deserves plenty of blame for her loss but I dont agree for the reason you mentioned. He held back on making the Russia stuff public so as to not be criticized by Republicans for trying to sway the election.... and they went ahead and did it anyways.

As usual, the world is more complicated than you would like it to be. If it was as simple as you say, the Republicans would have been running out Trump like figures as their candidates for decades. The racists in the party were there before Trump, so why did we only get Trump four years ago. There's a big difference between Bush/McCain/Romney and Trump.

Something changed during Obama's two terms. A tipping point was reached.

The U.S. Postal Service will halt its controversial cost-cutting initiatives until after the election — canceling service reductions, reinstating overtime hours and ceasing the removal of mail-sorting machines and public collection boxes, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy announced in a statement Tuesday.

looks like someone decided to cut his losses

They aren’t putting things back etc

They took the hatchet to it and now trying to act like they learned their lesson

The crooks did what they wanted to do

Is there ?

Nixon? Southern strategy

Reagaen ? He announced his candidacy in Philadelphia Mississippi. Welfare queens in Cadillacs

Bush41? Willie Horton and, Willie Horton

Bush 43? Katrina- Iraq. McCains adopted daughter
×××××××

I would argue neither McCain or Romney stirred up the "base" damning their chances
