That was one of the stranger trades because Turner wasn't eligible to be traded until June 2015, since he was drafted in 2014. However, it was known he was part of the trade, and still had to remain with his previous minor league team with the Padres and play with them.

I really don't see it. Reds have a few stud starters but their pen and offense is garbage.

They pretty much have to go 15-10 the rest of the way (I think a .500 record claims the last WC spot) and they have 9 games left with the Cubs, Sox, and Twins. They have a tough schedule.

Actually their bullpen is pretty solid. Raisel Iglesias is their closer and is really good, his ERA is inflated due to a few early bad games. They just acquired Archie Bradley. They have Amir Garrett. And our old friend Lucas Sims has been really good too.

Their top 3 pitchers are capable of carrying them when they are on. Gray has been dominant, Bauer is very good, and Luis Castillo has been a little worse but still good.

Their bullpen has a 5.04 FIP which is 6th worst in baseball while their 5.22 ERA is 7th worst. I wouldn't call that solid.

But in the playoffs it's a different game. You only need your best starters, who inevitably are the ones who go deeper into games. So you only need your top bullpen arms. They strike me as a team built more for the post season than the regular season, and could do damage if they get in. Our team strikes me as the opposite, which seems like the case every time.

We are talking about making the playoffs though. They are behind the 8ball with a tough schedule. Its not happening.
 
Yeah i dont think the Reds get in unless they get crazy hot these next 3-4 weeks.
 
Totally random and he will get there eventually. But I didn't think it would be such a struggle for Miguel Cabrera to get 500 and 3000.

Think everyone expected him to age badly, but it's really shocking to see him drop off the cliff like he has since he was on a team with the DH available. As bad as he was during his age 37-39 seasons, Pujols still hit 17 or more 2Bs and 19 or more HRs each year - and Miggy's 3 full years younger.

Yup. Some people just age harder than others. Still, both were done being elite at ages 33 and 34 respectively and they have been the two best hitters of that generation.

Their bullpen is hot trash. I watch their games often with my friend who is a Reds guy and they're so so bad.

This should be a HUGE warning light for those that want to extend FF past his current deal.

I would never have envisioned how quickly Pujols regressed. He was always athletic and extremely talented hitter and not just a masher. Basically the HOF version of FF.

I don't think Freddie is very similar in body type to Pujols or Cabrera. He's never been beefy like that.

Not that I'm arguing it makes him immune from similar decline.
