Movie Thread

Forgot to comment. Tenet is fantastic. It is super smart and John David Washington is amazing in it and Pattinson is quite excellent as well. The film fits a Nolan theme well and he does a great job keeping things a bit of a mystery but not hiding things from the audience. The sound mixing is exceptional. Ludwig Goransson's soundtrack is incredibly creative in it's use of playing things forward and backwards.

Just like that. Movie theatres are closed again until spring

Or until a vaccine is readily available. Which could start rolling out by the end of November if recent reports are to be believed. Christmas movies would be on deck if that were the case.

They’ve all been pushed back until next spring. Wonder Woman is still scheduled but no one expects it to come out this fall

what happened? I went to the theatres on Friday

With Bond being pushed back to next spring last week, Regals cinema owners decided there wasn’t enough good movies coming out to off set the cost of operating the theatres. It’s cheaper to just pay rent and leave the theaters empty than pay rent and all the additional operating costs involved with the running the cinemas on top of it.

If a vaccine is comes, they'll be pressure to move a few of them back up. Not all obviously. And IF a vaccine gets rolled out, I definitely believe there will be some studios wanting to take advantage of a market devoid of blockbusters. Tenet was a risk but it's done fairly well internationally. Domestic sales have lagged, but much of that can be contributed to NYC, LA, and San Fran (which represent 25% of all annual sales) still mostly closed for theaters.

Makes sense. My local theatre only has two new releases and the rest are halloween classics all month. They did a good job with the social distancing part though.
