I think DJL stays in NY or gets a long-term deal elsewhere. He should be one of the few guys who gets paid this winter. Springer you could be right on. Turner i think could be had on a 1 yr deal. Pederson i think gets a 3 yr deal somewhere but not an insanely high AAV deal.

We were paying Markakis $2 MM for this season. Like thewupk said, Heyward is untradeable unless someone is interested in swapping another big contract or the Cubs eating a ton of cash. Heyward has looked better at the plate the last couple of seasons, but I'm pretty much tossing this year's stats for most everyone. A lot of players and teams can have a great 60-game stretch only to hit the wall later.

i thought about Springer but figured no way he takes a 1-year deal. but that QO may end up helping that cause. didn't realize that.

Springer is intriguing. Don’t see him accepting a one year deal and don’t see the Braves being able to afford him, no matter how many years.
 
The guy I kind of like is Joc Pedserson. He had a rough year but with the short year it was different. We could use a good left handed hitter and I think we let Markakis go and possibly move on from Ender. He wouldn’t be cheap but he might be a bargain.

Pederson is literally the perfect platoon partner for Duvall.
 
I assume we let Flowers walk in favor of one of the youngsters, no? He'll likely cost less than the 4 million he was originally due this year, but the current situation being what it is, I would also assume that money would be better spent other places.

I don't think you're reading this current market correctly. Every team lost money this year. Unless a COVID vaccine appears before ST, teams will likely expect similar revenues in 2021. That means cost cutting across the board. And a guy like Joc, who is a platoon player, will find it hard pressed to get more than a 2 year deal with a 3rd year option. More likely he'll find a one year cushion deal and try to renter the market next off-season when teams should have more money to spend.

DJL is a bit of an oddity as a late bloomer. But I think it's more to do with the fact the he is perfect for that park, as his home/away splits are pretty severe. Still a solid overall player outside of NY, but not the perennial all-star he's showing to be overall. I'm sure both parties recognize this and they'll work out some 3-4 year deal to stay in NY.

In a normal year I'd look to keep Flowers but with payroll likely being slashed I think it's Contreras time.

My 3rd stepdad’s Baseball Almanac says differently. Plus he taught me, contrary to my second stepdad, that all traits of a ballplayer can be seen/shown on paper. That’s all that matters. Trust me, I’m an athlete and played “RBI baseball” a lot in the mall’s arcade with my first stepdad. I’ll start a thread soon with my write up on this. Stay tuned.

Flowers ended up with around 30% of the ABs. I know in years past they have been fairly even among our two catchers but Travis clearly earned the right to have a bigger share with the way he was hitting this year. As long as that's the case I'd be ok with that same ratio next year.

Flowers is probably more deserving of starts than Contreras would be at this stage of their careers.

I think signing Flowers cheap is still in play.

i'm not saying i wanted Flowers to get more ABs, just that if they're trying to develop Contreras, i'd like him to be getting more than what the number of 30% of the ABs next year will be.

so do i. Contreras isn't definitely ready, and i think you need him getting every day ABs AND work behind the plate.
 
For some reason I thought Contreras was a switch hitter. Either way, I think he's earned a shot. Langeliers is right behind him as well and should be ready sometime next year if needed.
