The Biden Presidency

If Biden doesn't run for reelection then I think it's pretty likely the Dems primary Kamala.

Unless, things go swimmingly and their administration holds strong favorability.

Unless something changes drastically with Kamala over the next 4 years, I can't imagine that going well. She is not good in debates and likely too liberal for independents. Hoping for Paul Ryan in 2024.

(of course, it's ****ing insane that trump is not currently toxic, just by virtue of who and what he is)

I want to say we are in a post-truth age but I cant identify a time when truth ever really mattered. People dont understand how much we have been led around on a leash by the people with power and influence. The who, what, where, and why has changed a lot over the years but people are easily influenced. The only saving grace is that there are competing sides on many of the issues. I could write a book on it from the last 100 years of US history.

I hate Trump but this election made quite clear that being associated with him isn't toxic.

The next nominee has to walk a fine balance of exciting Trump's base while widening the tent for moderates to help in the suburbs (GA, Arizona, Pennyslvania).

Up and down the ballot we saw Republicans (and centrist Democrats) clean up.

The Republicans have some good candidates. Haley has been mentioned. Tim Scott is another I could see run.

Paul Ryan is one that's lying in the weeds.

Pompeo could run. He has the military and CIA background.

And remember, just because you might not like someone doesn't mean they don't have what it takes to be a good candidate. Haley and Scott could hurt the democrats demographically. Ryan would likely have a machine of a campaign. Pompeo's military background could play up too.

I'm also not sure there's a majority appetite for the Romney/Ryan brand of conservatism any longer. Republicans have to run on a populist platform to bring in more working class minorities into the party.

Nikki Haley is definitely someone who has been on the Baseball America Top 100 prospect list for a few years. She will definitely run.

you're not wrong in the least, but trump was also next level. his blatant lies were like nothing we'd ever seen. even now, he's still creating two different worlds for people. he is and has been legitimately dangerous in that way.

You need the fire in the belly to want to run for president. The ones who appear to have it: Haley, Cruz, Rubio, Pence, Cotton, Pompeo, DeSantis, Paul.

Haley is the only one of that group who i think would have a shot.

That could change. Biden administration could release a whole lot of stuff Trump refused to. I imagine we will hear a lot from people who are/were scared of retaliation by Trump. When he no longer has the power to weaponize the federal government against people who dont kiss his butt I think we get an avalanche of new information about what went on the last 4 years. If Trump doesnt go full dictator like the hardcore MAGA wants he will lose face with some of them. His impending court troubles could change perception of him. He very well could be bankrupt and in a prison by the 2024 election.

Kamala in theory will be much more polished by then.

She was still mostly a political amateur even running now.

And again, it's always harder for the incumbent to lose.

Some variant on populism I think does well. Striker, you are right, Tim Scott is another person to watch. chop, it depends on how Ryan positions himself. He's a smart guy and someone from a Catholic-blue-collar background could be effective.

I think its Rands time to shine. I think he has a good combination of love from Trump supporters and Libertarian ideology that crosses over some to Democrats. Cruz and Lady G I think have no chance anymore. Pence, Pompeo, and Rand would be my top 3 contenders going into 2024.

All Republicans have to do is show their base what the other side thinks of them (things like this) and they will vote.

Yep. Much of the R vote was fueled by this very sort of thing and I don't think these guys get it in the least.
