Georgia Senate Runoff

It always amuses me to see the crowd who preach that there is no voter fraud turn around and cry about voter suppression. The registration process is simple. Checking the status of your registration is simple. You're insulting a huge chunk of the population by pretending they're too stupid to do it.

I'm guessing you don't have an elderly grandparents? Hopefully their kids will help them but what if they don't live in the same state? What if someone doesn't have enough money to have internet access?

Acknowledging systemic racism is part of trying push past racism. Pretending like race doesn't exist or matter is racist.

I don't equate black people with being poor or felons. I'm saying statistically speaking that the rules in place are meant to keep balck people poor and part of that is keeping them in jail. I know that blows a lot of your minds. But it's literally how the system is set up and until we work on dismantling it, it will keep being a factor.

This is a highly ableist attitude to have. Ignoring people who're stuck at home. Ignoring people who don't have the moeny to go to a place. Ignoring people who have to pay for an ID who have to choose between that and food for the week. Ignore all that. Any barrier that is between a person and voting is voter suppression. Even if it's just via disenfranchisement.

I think the widespread and unfounded accusations of voter fraud this month make it clear that everyone with a very few exceptions should vote in person with a government ID. That will preclude another would be tyrant from claiming widespread fraud again.

I think the original point is " look what happens when we open the system"

Unless anyone hasnt noticed, Georgia is no longer a deep red state.

Like I said, why is it even controversial that voter suppression in the deep south is an issue

Georgia offers free ID cards. You have to pay for a driver's license but can get a free picture ID.

The idea that any barrier between a person and voting is suppression is silly. There have to be some bars to ensure only qualified voters vote. With no bars I could drive around to 4 states and vote in each.

But you still have to go to a county office or DMV to get that.

We have laws outlined by the Constitution and Federal Laws.

Essentially the requirements to vote should be.

Do you fit the qualities of voting per the constitution and federal law?

Are you a US Citizen?

Is your primary residence in this voting ward?

What more do you need?

What you said above is a fact. That still doesn’t prove systemic racism. Your denominator is wrong.

You also have to have it to buy tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets, Sudafed, pay with a check, cash a check, fly on a plane, pick up mail at the post office... there are reasonable expectations we can make of adults. Getting an ID once every few years to do these things is a reasonable expectation.
