You also have to have it to buy tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets, Sudafed, pay with a check, cash a check, fly on a plane, pick up mail at the post office... there are reasonable expectations we can make of adults. Getting an ID once every few years to do these things is a reasonable expectation.
This. My point earlier was voting is easier than buying cold medicine. I don't think you can claim suppression when you have to jump through more hoops to get sudafed than to choose the president.
