Healthcare in USA...

We cant just flip a switch

I’d agree that it would be decades of education and supplemental income to incentivize healthier foods and lifestyles.

That’s the only type of change I’d be comfortable with though.

Throwing money at an unhealthy population without addressing the root causes will be an exercise in futility.

all progressive HC proposals include wellness and health education from cradle on.
So you are unwittingly on board

Every health care proposal discusses well being. It’s about how much attention it gets in comparison to all other items is my issue.

Almost everyone I know that chooses a healthy lifestyle has minimal if no health care costs.

Obviously all people who genetically have issues should be protected but majority of our spend is because people live unhealthy lives. Unless a proposal primarily focuses on that issue it’s doomed to fail and screw the budget up even more.

True. The ACA incorporated quite a few good conservative ideas on healthcare reform. But it's overall thrust was more regulatory and government oriented than market oriented. An example of market oriented reform would be one that consisted of healthcare vouchers that people could use to buy health insurance and meet out-of-pocket costs, and a much less regulated market and varied set of choices on insurance plans. Give people more choice. Introduce more competition and experimentation with different kinds of coverage.

As we see from mail-in voting and masks opposition creates regulation. Voting -- by the effects of disonformation. Masks will require regulation due to stubborn non compliance.

Regulation re: ACA was born of necessity due to disinformation, or simply lies by opponents

We're obviously not going to monitor what people eat and charge them based on that (though we can tax soda and junk food, which I'm in favor of). But a lot of health plans incentivize things like gym memberships and preventative healthcare such as annual physicals, colonoscopies once you turn 50, mammograms, etc.

Suppose everyone respected traffic flow, we would never have see the pesky regulation of stop signs , traffic lights or yhe tyranny of traffic fines

Hate the idea of taxing things like soda because it just takes away options for poor people.

Precisely. There is a framework of rules to respect the road with oversight for enforcement. I’d like to see something similar with healthcare. It would be a much cheaper option in the long term. Let those who choose to live unhealthy bear the burden of their own decisions.

They are regressive taxes. Cigarette taxes are regressive. But they serve useful purposes. You can have a tax system that overall is progressive while incorporating regressive taxes on social bads like junk food.

If you got serious about promoting well being and not just healthcare I’d be one of the largest proponents of the plan.

We could spend half of what we do on healthcare and get better results if we pushed the right lifestyles with people and those that make choices against a healthy lifestyle should be responsible for their own bad health outcomes.

Stop fat shaming you monster!!

My plan is to literally remove all government intervention from the system.

But you are not interested in that idea.

You want to go the opposite direction.

"The VA for all"

Taking options away from poor people is cruel. They already are limited.

If you are so concerned about that, you can use the proceeds of those taxes to increase the earned income tax credit and other programs aimed at helping poor people.

Most healthcare issues won’t be solved with “more information”

People know fast food is bad for them, but the line is still around the block.

People know to exercise and limit sugar, but they don’t.

Our local hospital system employees get money back off their benefits according to how many gym visits they make. Yet most never darken the doors.

Anyone who has ever dealt with the VA knows it’s a disaster, and I’m not sure the US govt would be any better running a full healthcare system. I’d have to see proof before being for any type of change.

Higher cigarette taxes have helped to greatly reduce smoking.

So you don’t accomplish what you want. Just a circular governmental system that will be highly inefficient and corrupt. Here is one dollar, why am I only getting 20 cents back?
