Healthcare in USA...

Most healthcare issues won’t be solved with “more information”

People know fast food is bad for them, but the line is still around the block.

People know to exercise and limit sugar, but they don’t.

Our local hospital system employees get money back off their benefits according to how many gym visits they make. Yet most never darken the doors.

I’d agree and that’s why our healthcare system won’t be solved by throwing more money at it.

So you don’t accomplish what you want. Just a circular governmental system that will be highly inefficient and corrupt. Here is one dollar, why am I only getting 20 cents back?

the idea is to change the relative prices of things...make bad things expensive and good things cheaper...simple and elegant...with a track record of success...much better than complicated regulatory mandates

Your system funnels a dollar into the government and if we are lucky 33 cents comes back. No thanks.

I’d say that’s high.

A hugely inefficient entity in charge of something that size is a mistake imo

the government is going to take what it needs...i'd rather it tax bads like junk food than socially and economically desirable things like work (via payroll and income taxes)

it is a very well researched topic

I’ve never heard someone say “Im gonn quit smoking, it’s so expensive”

I had a friend tell me he just didn’t know where all his money went every month until he told me how much he spends on weed. People without self control are going to do -at significant cost- what they feel makes them feel good.

Are you saying a consumer tax instead of income and payroll tax bc that’s not the impression I’ve gotten from your posts

But give it more room to be really inefficient? Idk... seems like a poor plan

society would be better off if we increased taxes on bad things (cigarettes, junk food, carbon emissions) and reduced income and payroll taxes...it is a first principle of public finance

Consumption taxes are awful for poor people.

I do think we should limit payroll taxes though.

as i posted earlier, these taxes (on things like cigarette and junk food) are indeed regressive...but you can adjust other aspects of the tax code and programs to help poor people to make the overall system more progressive

it is possible to do two things at once

It’s a net tax increase for poor people. It would be an absolute disaster.

to me the overall tax take and the types of taxes that are best are two separate issues

regardless of what we decide as a society the overall tax take should be, we should try to have a tax system that discourages bad things and minimally discourages good things like working

all progressive HC proposals include wellness and health education from cradle on.
So you are unwittingly on board

And taxpayer funded abortion. And free gender reassignment.

I'm on board for guaranteed basic health care for all. I'm on board for helping pay for it. Hopefully it won't double what I pay and reduce the quality of my insurance the way ACA did, but I'm cool with helping out.

But I am confident we would have major disagreements on what basic health care consists of, and your side has no interest in it if those things are not included. Helping people is only a small part of the goal, power and dictating terms is the real prize they're after.

Both are medical procedures. Unless of course your objection is sosio- religious. In which case,,,, everyone will have an axe to grind that directly effects anothers well being.

Both would require extensibe counseling to help educate the patient and ascertain need.
