It's OVER 5,000!
I'm pretty deep into the NatSec stuff as a hobby, and what I've seen from people who should know is that Austin is a professional who will see this silly bigotry for the nonsensical distraction that it is. There's also a suspicion that he is uniquely qualified due to his experience with withdrawing combat forces from abroad, implying that Biden may be considering a similar withdrawal. Credit to Biden if that's true.
It's just unfortunate for him that his skin color was ever mentioned. Biden traded in General Austin's credibility for some woke points with the CBC and BLM. Other than being a career officer, Austin seems well qualified and has earned Biden's trust after a professional relationship of several years. That should have been all that was ever mentioned about his nomination.
Now, the nomination of yet another retired career officer is not ideal, and the third ever congressional waiver of the seven year requirement absolutely should not be issued this soon after the second. We know it will be, and why.
