Farewell, Cleveland Indians

Atlanta Hammers isn’t bad. Can even incorporate a hammer in place of the tomahawk. It also rights an enormous wrong by not naming the new park Hank Aaron Field

Pretty funny that all sorts of people come out screaming about how ridiculous and and bothersome it is to ask a sports team to change its name or logo because some people find it insulting. Like it or not, if you're not Native American your opinion on the subject carries exactly zero weight.

Your opinion about whose opinions count, doesn't count. See how utterly simple minded, ridiculous, and un American your statement was? Is this China now? Absolutely everyone's opinion counts. What kind of racist would tell a group of people that their opinion doesn't count because of the color of their skin? Do you see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor or something?

Yeah, I thought of Atlanta Hammers too. Otoh some my be offended by the seeming endorsement of a pork product.

I also like Atlanta Freemen. In honor of Marvin of course.

Wouldn't it be the Atlanta Starvins' if they named it after Marvin.

I've long been an advocate of renaming the Cleveland team the "Guardians," after the Guardians of Traffic sculptures that were erected on the nearby Hope Memorial Bridge back in the 30's. You can go big on the Art Deco iconography, stick a bunch of replicas of the statues around the stadium, even hold Guardian Races at some point in the middle innings. It would be a really cool, unique look.
