TRHLIM

As you said, art is subjective. I see Arrogance, outsized, and with an unintelligent face, eating Liberty.

Saturn Devouring his Son according to Goya. Based on Greek mythology which held that Kronos (the Greek counterpart of Saturn) was afraid of being overthrown by one of his children. He solved the problem by eating them (I think Goya is speaking to us if we will listen).

Not all of Goya's works are so dark. This one was painted when he was younger and less bitter about various things.

This theme has become distinctly political (and I think very relevant to today) from at least the French Revolution, when a journalist observed that like Saturn, the revolution devours its children. There is a variation on it that holds revolutions devour their parents. Too early to say how things will go in this country, but we are at a febrile moment. Brought to this point by too many people being willing to hope for the best when a clearly mentally ill and unfit man ran for the highest office in the land.

The history of revolutions should frighten everyone.
"One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship."

Yeah. I have no appetite for revolutions. Hopefully, we can lower the temperature and put this behind us.

There are some things I'm rather uncompromising about. As I'm sure you've noticed.

My Congresswoman is going to be a problem.

The conversation started when Greene — a fierce defender of President Trump and former QAnon backer — sent a National Pulse article to the chain claiming the president’s approval numbers had increased in December.
Mace, who came out early against Republicans who planned to reject the election results, fired back: “I’m disgusted by what you and other Q-conspiracy theorists did last week in the chamber after all of the violence.”
Greene said she condemned it and told Mace “don’t believe the fake news." She also brought up how some Black Lives Matter protests turned violent.
Mace answered: “Literal QAnon lady trying to deny she’s a QAnon lady.”

uh, yeah

that's what we have been trying to show you lol

i really can't believe we have to keep talking about the false equivalency but

a protest for social justice is not the same as a political coup. no matter how much you wish it was.

Sure, but serious people aren't calling it a coup. People don't wear buffalo hats and **** in the floor during a coup. They carry guns and try to seize control. Remind me, how many of the Capitol trespassers were carrying guns?

They literally placed bombs, had zip ties to get hostages, who knows how many had guns and they built gallows outside on top of literally beating a cop to death etc etc etc

Your stance of thinking this was just a protest and false equivalency is noted and laughable

Lunatics most certainly do wear buffalo hats and **** in the floor. These people who were at the Capitol because they were so ****ing stupid they thought the election was stolen. So we need to remember these are irrational people. And the count I have is 5 arrested for guns. And as police say "If I have a gun and someone is fighting with me, then we have a gun". They could have taken guns from the Capitol police. Pretty sure Congress has an armory somewhere in there as well if they could access to it.

The goal was to change the election result. How is that not a coup?

The whole big lie since the election (and some of the spade work was done well before the election) was one gigantic attack on our constitutional system. We should not miss the big picture by being overly concerned about details like defecating in the hallways of the Capitol.
