Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

I thought it was official, no DH in NL. You all think they will negotiate that again when the owners try to cut the season again?

It's usually safe to bet on MLBPA and the owners bickering over something and coming to no productive resolution. That said, it's pretty clear both sides want the universal DH, so in theory they should be able to figure something out. But if the owners insist on using it as a leverage point to gain a major concession from the players, that's a no-go.

Another example of AA’s strategy to be the fallback option for everyone. It’s genius as long as someone eventually has to take advantage of a fallback option. We’ve yet to see what happens if nobody does though. Hopefully we don’t have to find out.

Well, we haven't even heard Melancon or Greene mentioned rumors wise. Seems like the price on those two is looking pretty reasonable.

Can’t wait for Riley at 3rd. Ender in right and Johan as our DH. Will make all these near misses so worth it. We can say but he kicked soo many tires. But hey we are not strapped with a bad contract. Go team.

has this happened yet?
Braves haven't really missed out on anybody actually on their radar.

Do you have on-the-record prediction?

I think we’ve hashed out all the possible names at least 10x each. They all fit in several scenarios.

If there’s a DH my guess is officially

Ozuna
Pederson
Duvall

With Riley at 3b and Turner back with the Dodgers.

I’m out on Rosario now that I see how terrible his defense is.

Not even going to guess backup SS, C or BP.

Betcha $1 AA adds 3 bats if there is a DH in the NL, and 4 if Riley is used in a trade.

After this bet is won or lost, can we pool all our $1s and head over to a strip club? Lol.

3, maybe 4, bats is quite the prediction. What are you thinking lf/3b and two bench bats? Or lf/3b, dh, and two bench bats?

The petty owners will not do the DH unless they get something from the players.

I’m thinking 2 OF/3b and a DH. I am not including backup SS or backup C in that 3 count.

Basically, a direct replacement for all of Ozuna, Markakis, Duvall, Hech and probably Flowers must be acquired.

Guessing Adrianza is the Hechavarria replacement and A-Jax or Contreras steps in for Flow.

Passan: The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing a trade to acquire starter Steven Matz from the New York Mets for three prospects, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

This is always the puzzling time of the year for me. Adrianza is a better player than Mayfield (and Garlick), but Mayfield is on the 40-man and Adrianza is on a minor league deal. I get that there are financial considerations, but it's always interesting how this time of year plays out.

Matz was a DFA candidate and a team actually gave up prospects to get him plus his full 5.2 million salary???

Mish with the obvious tweet: If the DH returns to the National League, I can see Marcell Ozuna returning to Atlanta. If it does not, those chances drop significantly. Ozuna has been and still is looking for a multi-year deal coming off a great 2020.
