The Coronavirus, not the beer

I don’t think you know how it works. A lot of obese people can’t help it. Some can. They don’t see fast food and get a raging Boner from it.

It’s like blaming stupid people for being stupid. Some make bad choices and try not to focus on school but some people can’t help it. We all know those kids from school, who never opened a book or did homework but it came naturally to them and they got all a’s. Then there are kids who no matter how hard they studied, did practice tests, note cards etc, it wouldn’t stick in thier brain and they did bad in school. That’s genetics. You can’t help that. There’s people who eat like **** but because they were born with good genes and high metabolism it doesn’t effect them and the opposite is also true.

Sure some people are fat because they don’t care and some people are stupid because they don’t care about school but genetics has a lot to do about who you are and you can’t help that or change that.

The perception that this is common is the main problem here.

It isn't.

You are making excuses for people that can't control where their car pulls in for food or what they order.

You either are mentally tough enough to do without, or you will become something unhealthy.

FWIW, i workout hard SO that i can enjoy myself on the weekends if i want.

this is an extreme case...but google prader-willi syndrome...where the urge to eat is literally right there in some people's genes

now obviously most obese people are not like that...but there is a certain aspect to it that is not due to "lack of responsibility" or unwillingness to exercise

ditto for alcoholism where there is a "genetic predisposition"

take a DNA test with 23andme and you will get a long list of things to which you are predisposed, from running a marathon to drinking coffee to being able to match musical pitch...i ran a couple marathons and was a competitive weekend road race warrior for a long time and it turns out that is baked in my genes...and I'm relieved to note that my lack of musical ability is not due to "lack of effort"

Prader-Willi syndrome affects an estimated 1 in 10,000 to 30,000 people worldwide.

I mean.... is anyone talking about people with this? No.

Not everyone is a "victim" of Pw syndrome.

Hey @Dalyn

There are several meal services that mail you healthy meals ready to eat meals that are the same price as fast food or less. Don’t let this common misconception keep you eating unhealthy

Let me know if you’d like info.

as i said that's an extreme case...but we are learning that quite a large number of traits involve a genetic predispostion...that doesn't absolve people from taking responsibility...having a bad temper probably has a genetic component but we all have a responsibility to try to control it

mentally tough

probably has a genetic component

things like tidiness, punctuality all have genetic components...we think of them as good habits and products of discipline, but they come much easier to some people than others...families with adopted children will testify to this

resiliency, the ability to bounce back from defeat or failure, has a strong biological component...we think of this as "character" or "mental toughness"...but it is at least in part biological...i know this because i know someone who is doing research on this

does not mean we should not prize qualities like resiliency, tidiness, punctuality in our children...they should be developed as much as possible

Having a good upbringing with two parents who teach accountability and responsibility is key. Public schools not teaching how everyone is oppressed and how we are all special aint helping.

We are a society of weak men. Testosterone levels are declining in each generation. We can't handle adversity.

Its no wonder why getting in shape is so difficult for people. It takes hard work. Discipline. Accountability. Determination.

But those things are white supremacist so they are banned

The mind is the most powerful tool in the world. It can be trained for good or bad. Up to the user for the most part...

It can be honed in any way the user needs.

Once again- we aren't talking about the majority of cases here.

"... data-driven decisions ..., loving freedom, ... Neanderthal ..., then well, ... count me as one."

fill in the blanks.

I can't disagree. We don't deal with adversity well. It is why you see the leaders in society that rise above the rest as unrealistic. They overcame obstacles and WANTED something. They wanted it so badly they sacrificed other things for it.

Kevin Hart, Cameron Hanes, David Goggins.... all folks to talk about how obstacles and adversity make the man. How you react and treat life is EVERYTHING.

They don't talk excuses. Life is gonna hand you a bag of **** at some point. Its how you clean it up that makes the person.
