ST Monday 3/22 on TV

Agreed. He seems to not have a plan. Just throwing. But that seems easier to fix than not having talent.

I’m not saying they should cut him. But I think Wilson has maybe earned the chance to start until Soroka returns. And I think the team needs to figure out something to help Wright optimise his stuff.

Agreed, its not even close. Wilson has wiped the floor with him thus far. Last year at the end and in Spring Training. I never said we should cut him either... simply said I'm starting to lose faith and I don't see how that's a stretch or unreasonable. Acting like negative feelings on Wright is only based on 60+ MLB innings is silly.

Wright is running out of time. Hope he puts it together. He might just not be good. Or maybe a reliever. For his sake, he would likely be best served to go to a team that is tanking where he can take lumps and see if he can emerge.

I wonder now if Ender is bad enough that we would cut him for a Matt Joyce type (if a Matt Joyce type is cut from somewhere else).

Wrights minor numbers are fine. His walk/k rate are where they should be. Wright’s problem is he walks the world in the majors and then his homers become 2-3 run shots. He has the talent. Much more than wilson. He just needs the balls that wilson has.

the problem with Wright is as zb said he wasn’t even impressive at any point in the minors. some
of his numbers were decent but on the whole they were very uninspiring for a supposedly polished college guy in the minors. we haven’t seen him be an extremely effective pitcher at any point in his pro career.

Wright has spent most of his brief MLB career bouncing between the big leagues and the minors, and he's basically always been in a position where if he had one bad start he'd go right back down. That's tough, and ideally I think you'd pencil him in to the fifth spot in the rotation, give him a bunch of consecutive starts, let him sink or swim and finally make clear whether or not he can pitch at this level. But the Braves are trying to win a World Series here, and there's not much of a margin for error in the division, so you can't just let Wright get his head kicked in over the course of three months.

The other thing with Wright is that I just don't see the stuff you want from someone with his pedigree. It's an arsenal of mediocre offerings, and it's really hard to get big league hitters out there if that's what you're bringing to the table.

I guess his minor numbers were fine... if you call average to below average fine

That's the other thing that has me down on Wright... all of his pitch and statcast data are pretty mediocre... he has a lot of pitches, they are just very average.

And Lamb .... face palm

As someone who took a flyer on Lamb last year, I was not at all excited about that pickup. He's as much toast as Ender, IMO.

The Braves bench is awful pending call ups of guys who we don't have much reason to believe are ready.

At this point I think wilson will start with Atlanta. But I still predict Wright will have the better career.

That would not surprise me at all. Wright and Touki are both great candidates for reclamation specialist franchises to fix by emphasizing strengths and protecting them from their weaknesses a little better.

Reminds me a little of Charlie Morton though he has less MLB experience....Charlie didn't take off until he was with Philadelphia (prior to injury) if i'm not mistaken , then exploded onto the map in Houston...

Lamb is gone. Kyle needs time.

Lamb is the kind of signing that Anthopoulos makes that makes me shake my head. Sure, it's nothing ventured, nothing gained, but the guy has basically had one good month out of the last three seasons. Maybe Lamb turns it around and contributes, but he can't field, so he really needs to hit.

That might not be a bad comparison. Coaches figured out what Morton's strengths were and pointed him in that direction. When he first came up, Morton had five pitches, but they were all a bit fringy. Now he's narrowed his repertoire a bit and everything looks better. Morton is another poster child as to why you wait a little longer with pitchers. Sometimes they can find it a little later.

Fried was a raw high schooler who was a late developer because of TJS... Wright was thought to be an advanced college pitcher almost ready to be a serviceable in the majors when he was drafted... he has literally shown almost zero growth.

This is the concerning part to me. He literally looks exactly the same as he did immediately after being drafted.

He gave him a Major League contract too, so I’d be surprised if he’s not on the opening day roster.
