Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

Would just as soon carry both Newk and Dayton for the first ten days - let's finally move on from Camargo please.

It’s a shame he’s got zero value at this point to at least get some sort of prospect for him...He’s probably going to be just outrighted eventually.

In terms of pinch hitting duty against RHP we have Lamb and PANDA (a switch hitter who is a bit better from the left side).

Against LHP PANDA is the best option with Adrianza also available.

You want more/better options against RHP because obviously there are more of them, but also our lineup tilts righty so opposing managers are more likely to have a RHP on the mound.

As a switch hitter with splits that are not too pronounced, I think PANDA is quite a good choice for the bench.

I also envision PANDA and Lamb playing some at third with Riley moving to right and Acuna playing center.

So you are assuming that Lamb makes the OD roster. why?? He hasn't shown much of anything with the bat in ST and has made several errors in field at 3B.

The bench should be Contreras, Adrianza, Panda, Ender and either Camargo or Lamb. Since Camargo has an option, the spot should go to Lamb.

They should carry 4 SPs and an extra BP arm for the first 10 days until Wilson is needed as a 5th SP. When Soroka is ready he can replace Wilson or whoever is injured during the first month

Braves cut Lamb, option Camargo and Contreras to the minors. They're going with a bench of Adrianza, Sandoval, Inciarte and Jackson. Ynoa on the roster.

Don’t really love a 4 man bench with pitchers hitting. Jackson will never pinch hit, Ender can’t hit, Adrianza has never hit in his career and then there’s Pablo. Just doesn’t seem optimal to carry an extra arm when the bats on the bench are this bad.

Also, can someone smarter than me figure out how long Contreras would have to stay down to gain an extra year of control?

A 4 man bench in the NL is rough, but it’s especially rough when those are the 4 men.

Pretty disappointed in AA with regards to the MLB depth. It’s the only mistake he made this off season aside from maybe not grabbing a value RHP for the BP.

The plan has to be to pick up an extra hitter. Someone like Matt Joyce or Jay Bruce would be nice.

The Tigers are going to cut Renato Nunez - he would certainly seem to be a better pure pinch-hitting option than Lamb or Camargo. He'd give you a RH power bat on the bench with Panda as your main pinch-hitter. Adrianza could play defense at 3B after you used either Panda or Nunez to hit and Riley or Ender had replaced Ozuna defensively if you were trying to protect a lead.

Not in my opinion. He has more Ks(280) than hits (248) in career. A K rate of 28% is a little high for a PH only player IMO.

I agree the 4 man selected bench is not optimum especially with the 4 that have been selected. I hope there is someone better than Nunez who becomes available.
