Around the League - 2021 Szn

gNats GM says that they had a player test positive for COVID today. But another 4 players were deemed to be in close contact and will have to quarantine. So they will have 5 players not available tomorrow

Lindor wants 385-400M, Mets are offering 325M. Lindor has some huge balls turning down that much. They gotta be able to meet in the middle somewhere. Even as good as he is, i'm not sure he gets 385-400M in FA. Surprised we havent heard anything on Braves and Freeman. Figured that was something that would get done before OD.

It's the Mets so this will end badly

Most likely. But conversely, they have a 5+ WAR SS locked up during his prime years. Let's hope moving forward that he's more of the solid 3-4 WAR player he was in 2020 and not the 7 WAR beast he was in 2018.

Lindor is a good player and is worth the contract. But it's the Mets.

Man. 34 million a year. Is lindor that good?

He's undoubtedly been the best SS in baseball over the last 5 years, leading the Majors in WAR at SS over this time. He's a little like Ozzie but with more power and he plays elite defense at SS.

I think the better sample is last year... swanson is the better player in fWAR. 37% of a normal season is a sufficient sample.

Lol

Lindor is really ****ing good, probably worth the contract. It's the years that can hurt but if the Mets somehow get a WS in that time, it's worth it.

So let's say Swanson does have another season like last, 4.5-5 fWAR. What's a Swanson extension look like?

IMO Swanson is way down the line from the young pitchers coming up for extensions.

Anderson is controlled through age 28 (six seasons)

Fried is controlled through age 30 (four seasons)

Soroka is controlled through age 26 (four seasons)

The only pitcher right now worth an extension is Soroka. And he likely would have been extended had he not gotten hurt last year. So assuming good health and production I bet that gets done in the next offseason.

DOB: When I asked #Braves' Freddie Freeman in zoom about whether there's anything going on with a possible contract extension, he said no, and that it's Opening Day and he's focused on playing the season. Didn't have his usual upbeat tone when answering that particular question.

I will burn the ****ing stadium down if they don't extend Freddie. That would be an incredible way to stall the contention timeline.

Not paying Freddie would be a total failure. Thought that was something that would get done before Opening Day.
