Republican voter suppression...

Have the number of days of early voting been reduced?

Why would anyone think that overnight anything with voting makes sense. Is this just a form of a Dropbox?

In the article you linked which piece that were deemed as bad provisions do you disagree with and why?

Yes, the provisions about making various activities felonies and giving wide discretion to the AG are blatant attempts to intimidate organizations from working to increase turnout. I would describe it as weaponizing the legal system to suppress voting. There are small number of unfortunate people serving long jail sentences right now because of inadvertent violations of election law. That small number is going to grow given the particulars of the Texas bills under consideration. The effect will be to intimidate voters and people trying to promote turnout.

Discouraging the types of activities which facilitated ballot harvesting is a net positive.

There is just no way to make an argument in this day and age that gettinginformation about where and when to vote is difficult. All these organization are doing is collecting ballots in masse without any way of knowing what things are being promised and given.

To pretend like that is a good thing for elections is insanity.

It is weaponizing the law to suppress voting. Dressed up as election integrity. And I hope Texas gets the kitchen sink thrown at it if it passes those bills.

It will probably end up just as much a nothing burger as you believed the GA bill is.

So let’s all relax

Discouraging illegal and unethical activity is kind of what we do. It’s a net positive.

I can't believe this is even a topic. The argument from the democrats is so dishonest and illogical that it has me shocked that so many people support the idea that proving you're a citizen to vote in the United States is somehow racist.

It's not even a partisan issue. It's common sense.

I’d be on board with a Federal ID program to help eliminate some of these issues. Make it completely free and mandatory and allow it to be used for a variety of situations that would otherwise require ID and maintain a digital backup. One of those uses could be on federal elections. The issue with ID laws tends to be the increased burden placed on the poor. Even if they qualify for a no-cost state ID, there are many parts of the country, both urban and rural, where it is a chore to get to a DL Center, and those on the bottom rung don’t always have the same opportunity to make it through those barriers.

Yeah. Having years to get a free ID is definitely too high of a hurdle.

Come on now. This is getting ridiculous.

We can also use it to store vaccination records

Lets be honest, this whole discussion is about this imaginary black person that liberals have created that lives so far out in the sticks and is so poor that they can't afford an ID and they couldn't get to town to get an ID even if they had the money for one. They are trying to say that republicans are targeting this imaginary person to ensure that they can't vote. It's a ridiculous notion to even consider, let alone actually believe.

We've never seen, heard or had a discussion until this year about people not being able to get IDs due to poverty because it's never been a real issue. It's a narrative that the left has devised to try and tug on the heart strings of people over this imaginary person that can only afford to pay the bills and feed mouths but has no way of scraping up $15 and a way to get to town. There is no burden here. It's a responsibility that nearly every adult puts up with in order to prove they are who they are. Poor people have plenty of unnecessary things that they drove to town to get that cost a lot more than an ID so I'm not buying this "burden" that people are talking about. It's propaganda.

Republicans aren't targeting poor people or black people because lets face it, the majority of poor people that live way out in the sticks are republican voting white people. What they're targeting are illegal immigrants and non US citizens voting for US politics. It's perfectly reasonable to want American citizens voting for American presidents.

And GA provides the ID for free.

But the racists on this board then say the black people can't afford to find the time to pick it up.

They dont think they can tie their own shoes

They could even find the information on when to go to get the ID. It’s even more systemically racist!

I believe Texas has restricted dropboxes in densely populated counties like Harris County. Why not allow them to have the same number on a per capita basis as less densely populated counties.

What makes this so stupid is that you only vote very 2-4 years. Is it really that hard to find an afternoon or two in that time period where you can go get your ID?
