Braves sign Freeman to 8 year 135M deal! *Updated to 135m*

I will become re-energized as a Braves fan if we can lock up Freeman on a long term deal.

According to Jon Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Braves and Freddie Freeman are close to announcing a multi-year contract extension.

The Braves have already agreed to a two-year deal with Jason Heyward to avoid an arbitration hearing and now it appears that Freeman is next. Freeman, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter, requested $5.75 million and was offered $4.5 million from the Braves when arbitration figures were exchanged last month.

It doesnt say its a deal that buys out any free agent years though. Got my hopes up anyways. Freeman = #1 priority imo.

Would love to see a 5 year deal, buying out his 3 arby years and 2 free agent years, but more likely it is similar to Jason's.

To everyone that was bitching about Liberty, and to the general boo-hoo-ers this offseason: Line up for your delicious crow pie.

Wait a second....if they are just buying out arby years then its not anyting special. I want some free agency years purchased.

I agree, buying out only arby years gains us no further team control, only cost certainty.

I agree ... here's to hoping that the Braves are locking down Freddie for a considerable interval.

That being said, anything beats going year-to-year.

Jon Heyman saying it's done ... Bowman says they are 'ironing out a few details'.

This is the best news this organization has had in over a decade. Hopefully Jason will follow!

Well it looks like one of the 2 we need to keep around will be. I'm guessing at 100M+ it's a minimum 7 year deal. I can't imagine with 3 arb years that it's a 6 year deal.

He'll stay a Brave fi the Braves are smart, maybe he'll extend next offseason but my hunch is he'll test FA and we'll be his number 1 suitor hopefully.

Like I said in the other thread, Freeman has earned this type of contract. Heyward has not put together the type of seasons that he is capable of. Let him prove he can do it this year and then lock him up long term. Go Braves!!! Now its time for Kimbrel.

One source said Freddie Freeman's extension could be as much as $125 million over eight years when it is done. @FOXSports1
