I have a problem with many things. And yes, you can say it that way you want, but your messages seem polluted with sarcasm and belittling because your intended message does not come off the way you think it does.

Then again, you guys are behind a computer just like me. I can't tell what you mean only what it seems to mean to me. You guys aren't offended when you type it and it's what you mean, so perhaps you shouldn't be offended when I take it another way. Your truth or not. Or better yet if I have questions about it retort. It's what you do anyway.

Last thing. I'm me. Black and proud and I'll defend MY THOUGHTS. Just like you all do. That being said, I'm not, nor have I ever advocated separation. Hell I don't even Like B.E.T. because I think it's the very separation that we don't want as a people. I don't read black magazines or any of that. Not because I'm not into my culture. I certainly am. I don't want separation. And yes....I would fall out if they had a W.E.T. (Well...CMT doesn't count...lol)

As for spending time here, I would like to. Some of this is so super charged. I am trying to get better about looking at other perspectives and will try to do that more.

You didn't offend me, I think you're among the more reasonable people here. And I fully admit my sarcasm. I follow a pattern here of starting with a good attitude, growing more cynical and sarcastic, disgusting myself, taking a break, and then starting back at the beginning again.

Thanks Jaw. I try to be a decent poster. And I love talking the prospects more than this stuff. I'll try to add perspective without being so tense. I appreciate posters like you as well who at least help with the rationale of things. Imagine that.
 
I didnt watch much of the trial but I know one key thing they didnt bring up, likely on purpose. What Chauvin was doing kneeling on Floyd for so long was retaliation for what cops call PoP or "pissing off a police officer". It is standard operating procedure in most police departments. Handcuffed and on his stomach it would have been extremely difficult for Floyd to get up even without a knee on him. You could claim the knee was fine for a second but if he wasnt actively trying to get up there was no reason for 9 minutes of it. The defense argument that the crowd yelling "your killing him" distracted Chauvin is hilariously bad. I think thats was got the conviction. Like I said before the trial its hard to claim you had no idea he was dying when theres literally a crowd around you that does know he is dying and is informing you. The ironic thing to me is that if anyone had shot those cops wo were in the process of murdering Floyd he would have been immediately arrested, not allowed bail, been charged with more serious crimes, be threatened with the death penalty, and would most likely go through the trial of his life with a public defender.

"That's a conversation that my family and I will have. Pretty much keep that to a private thing," James said. "Obviously I saw Adam had his comments about the vaccination. But things like that, when you decide to do something, that's a conversation between you and your family and not for everybody. I'll keep it that way."

Indeed...see Tucker Carlson....there is this narrative (we could call it divisive) in which there is a whole group invested in the idea that our cities are disasters and cesspools...what our cities are is not homogeneous (i'll leave it to you to use another phrase if you prefer)...you see people from all over the world in our cities...speaking a variety of languages...raising their families...going to their kids activities...loving each other...like anywhere else...but there is this enormous emotional investment that a whole part of the political spectrum to portray our cities as an "other" and a failing other at that...and that's not at all the case...i've travelled to many american cities the past ten years...i love so many of them...Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, Memphis, Cincinnati, Portland, Seattle, LA, SD, Tulsa, Dallas...all cities i've travelled to multiple times over the last ten years...and all fantastic places offering amazing experiences

and i wont even talk about the places I've lived for long stretches of my life...the bay area in Northern California, NY, Boston...i'm a very lucky man to have been able to call these places home

I detect just a whiff...a very faint whiff....of a rooting interest emanating from you and some others for the failure of places that are not homogeneous and vote a certain way because they are not interested in going back to that bygone era you hanker for so much.

I might add that in contrast I have nothing against rural areas. I wish them the best of success and if they want to keep voting the same way I won't be asking for any audits and whatnots to make sure they're not cheating. I will, in the interests of fun and games, occasionally make a post or two in the red state/blue state thread touting the virtues of those parts of the country that I think represent the best of it, and contrasting those virtues with other areas. But if those other areas are happy with how they are, I'm happy for them too. And the folks who over the years have migrated to the cities will always be welcome (at least in my heart) to continue with that migration.

Well I’ve been a New Yorker for 37 years. I’ve seen what has happened to Manhattan first hand. It’s not pretty.

But, I can’t do anything about people that only see race. That’s not a me issue

I've seen the ups and downs. I started working in Manhattan in 1989. It has always been a complicated place with lots of problems. I noticed for example whenever I came back from my vacation in August that the place stank. And I noticed it stank less when Giuliani was mayor. I gave him a lot of credit for that even though I could tell even back then there was something a bit crazy about him. Basics like garbage collection matter to me. And still do.

You mentioned crime and homeless. Those are serious complicated problems deserving of a real discussion.

We as a society could solve the homelessness problem fairly quickly. Step one would be to return to mass institutionalization for mentally ill people. Step two would be to have a better health insurance program so that health problems did not become a journey to bankruptcy and homelessness for so many people. Step three would be to make the permitting process for affordable housing easier.

Step one alone would solve most of the problem. But I'm personally not in favor of it. I think even mentally ill people should be given some liberty (magic word) to choose their living arrangements. Who wants to live in an institution surrounded by other crazy people. Van Gogh was able to paint some great art under those circumstances, but he did not recommend the experience. I really don't have a solution to the problem of mentally ill homeless people. I have a couple friends who work to provide social services to them. Both of those friends are very burnt out and disillusioned and disappointed at the results of their efforts. And they don't have a solution. But we have to keep trying. My family has a Christmas night tradition. We join a group of volunteers in an assembly line and make sandwiches and then go into the city to distribute them. That's my annual personal contact with homeless people. Based on that I would say about two-thirds are mentally ill. But I am reluctant to endorse a particular policy that would sweep them out of our sight.

I'm legit shocked that James isn't talking it up. Like how is the NBA not pushing it's players to get it? I would think a corporate shill would do a better job.

But to me yeah LeBron is a fantastic player, his takes range from good to awful, which isn't shocking for an athlete, they often don't have the highest IQs and are often too busy you know being gods of the game to really understand nuance of all current events.

I wouldn't listen to LeBron talking about COVID Vaccine any more than I'd listen to Kyrie talk about circumnavigation.
